What SD CARD should I buy?

If you want an SD Card for your camera - these are the ones I use and recommend.

I'd strongly recommend not to buy any SD cards off ebay - I've heard about too many issues with counterfeit cards - often sold on by unwitting resellers. My inbox regularly gets messages from people who bought a £150 camera then cheaped out and bought a £3 memory card on ebay - Then when it doesn't worth they blame the camera! It doesn't make any sense. Good memory is cheaper than it's ever been - see the links above.

A lot of HD cameras will not work properly with cards larger than 32GB (cards over 32GB are usually SDXC rather than the SDHC standard used by 32GB cards. SDXC cards use the ex-FAT system rather than FAT32 - in short they are a different standard). - so don't just buy the biggest card you can afford - read the specs in the manual to see what it accepts.

CLASS 10 UHS-1 CARDS (For HD Cameras)

SPECIAL DASHCAM CARDS

The SD card in a dashcam is re-written over, more frequently than in other types of cameras. Some manufacturers void their guarantee if an SD card was used in a dashcam. So, no surprise, there are special High Endurance SD cards made just for dashcams...here's some.

VERY IMPORTANT. These links take you to the product, however Amazon have three different ways of selling. There's Amazon Direct - This means that you are only dealing with Amazon themselves, then there's other sellers that use Amazon's facilities - these show as Fulfilled By Amazon and finally there's Market Place sellers that advertise on Amazon, but operate independently.  I strongly recommend that you only use the first...the Amazon Direct - Sold By Amazon option. Even if it appears that you are paying a couple of £/$ more it is more than likely you are comparing the price of a real item against the price of a fake.

To give you an idea of the extent of the fake goods problem. In a 2016 survey by Apple - 90% of the 'Apple' chargers sold through Amazon - using the other the two methods..which includes the "Fulfilled by Amazon" option -  were found to be counterfeit....90%!

A Spy Camera Alarm Clock

The stand-out features of this alarm clock spy camera are its 12 hour recording capability and motion activation. One unusual feature that I didn't highlight in the video is that it's the only continuously-illuminated LED alarm clock that I've come across that runs from battery rather than mains power. I don't know how long the batteries are able to power the clock for, because while the camera power dies after approx 12 hours, the clock keeps running, and it still is, a number of days after I finished my testing.

Many thanks to Gadgetbuy.com.au for supplying this clock/camera. In addition to this clock, they also sell a wide range of spy devices and gadgets from their Australian online store.

Great one,,,,i really enjoyed it,

Thanks for reviewing a spy camera after such a long time. Please come up with more reviews of other spy cameras like watch camera, button camera, clothes hook camera etc etc

@Ajith. I may well go down the spy camera route again, sometime over the next few months.

Good review :) Unfortunately the image quality of this spy cam is quite poor.

BTW - have you heard of the Lytro cam yet? Will you test it as well?

Lytro camera, first time i am hearing about it. Checked in website and found it. Bloody hell!!!! that cost too much and at the same price i can buy a CANON DSLR

What does it mean at 04:18 'It will stay in motion activation mode for 12 hours'? If there is no motion, the batteries will be flat after 12 hours, just as if it was recording? Or does it just decide to jump out of this mode? Not really useful for weekend trip surveillance then.
It seems there is a newer model by now (same url), boosting 1280x960 video (less important) and up to 24 hours of video recording and 'will maintain surveillance of your house for a full week.' I hope the latter means the motion detection mode stays on until batteries drain after a week (or less when there is some movement and recording, I guess).
Is there any way to recognise the new from the old model, other than believing the specifications of the seller on some ebay site?

And yes, please put some of this kind of spy cams back in the mix, actually more independently operating, hidden surveillance cams. Is this a good alternative? http://www.ebay.com/itm/MINI-spy-clock-dvr-hidden-camera-remote-control-video-recorder-digital-camcorder-/300730427818?pt=US_Surveillance_Digital_Video_Recorders_Cards&hash=item4604ee29aa

A review for the Somikon DSC-32.mini, which seems a good alternative product to me, would also be appreciated.

TIA

Hi, I just watched this review, it is interesting concept hiding camera like that.
Must agree with others that the image quality of this spy cam is not best.
I wander what kind of material (glass, foil?) is used for camera to be hidden in this clock?
I would like to have that kind of material so I can hide my 808 camera in my home and use it as security camera.
Any useful information will be apreciated.
