What SD CARD should I buy?

If you want an SD Card for your camera - these are the ones I use and recommend.

I'd strongly recommend not to buy any SD cards off ebay - I've heard about too many issues with counterfeit cards - often sold on by unwitting resellers. My inbox regularly gets messages from people who bought a £150 camera then cheaped out and bought a £3 memory card on ebay - Then when it doesn't worth they blame the camera! It doesn't make any sense. Good memory is cheaper than it's ever been - see the links above.

A lot of HD cameras will not work properly with cards larger than 32GB (cards over 32GB are usually SDXC rather than the SDHC standard used by 32GB cards. SDXC cards use the ex-FAT system rather than FAT32 - in short they are a different standard). - so don't just buy the biggest card you can afford - read the specs in the manual to see what it accepts.

RECOMMENDED CARDS (for action cams - see dashcams below)

CLASS 10 UHS-1 CARDS (For HD Cameras)

U3 CARD (For 4K cameras)

The SD card in a dashcam is re-written over, more frequently than in other types of cameras. Some manufacturers void their guarantee if an SD card was used in a dashcam. So, no surprise, there are special High Endurance SD cards made just for's some.

VERY IMPORTANT. These links take you to the product, however Amazon have three different ways of selling. There's Amazon Direct - This means that you are only dealing with Amazon themselves, then there's other sellers that use Amazon's facilities - these show as Fulfilled By Amazon and finally there's Market Place sellers that advertise on Amazon, but operate independently.  I strongly recommend that you only use the first...the Amazon Direct - Sold By Amazon option. Even if it appears that you are paying a couple of £/$ more it is more than likely you are comparing the price of a real item against the price of a fake.

To give you an idea of the extent of the fake goods problem. In a 2016 survey by Apple - 90% of the 'Apple' chargers sold through Amazon - using the other the two methods..which includes the "Fulfilled by Amazon" option -  were found to be counterfeit....90%!

The 808 #18 - A Reluctant Review

This camera can really be summed up in a few words. It is an 808 #11 camera with AV-Out. Unless you need AV-out you are probably better off getting the #16 camera instead.

I am not going to link to any sellers of this camera. If you do want to buy one…you'll find it on eBay where you will most likely be importing it from China. If you are unable to find it using the eBay search function then I'd recommend also avoiding the camera as perhaps technology isn't your forte.

I wanted to let you know I picked up the 808 #18 (meant to get the #16) and with newer firmware/setup program it does just what I needed it to do, which is act as a manual car camera (alternate angles) and as a room monitor. Thanks to your reviews and Tom Frank's instructions in updating the firmware and getting the setup program for Windows, I'm having a great experience with it!

At the same time I bought the HD Drive Cam TFT and it's exactly as you described it. Now that these can be had so cheaply, EVERYONE should NEVER drive without a drivecam! I captured a near accident on the first day.

Thanks very much for your enjoyable and helpful reviews.

Right, then. For now, best regards from Iowa!

Hi Tech, hoping u can help.
I've got two 808s I believe both are #3. They both don't seem to turn on. The LED does light up when they are plugged in. But that's about it. Is there something I can do to get working again? TIA!

Hi. I've followed your vids for quite a while now and even bought the 808 #11 and the mobius on the strength of them and your sample vids. Many thanks for all your efforts and concise reviews.

Now i need to impose. sorry there is always a catch with flattery. When i bought my 808 #11 it came with a usb cable which lets it charge and record. Upon ordering I asked the seller for a second cable and they just sent a standard usb. Do you know or where I might find the pin outs on the original cable so as to record and charge or external power really.

Many thanks,

It’s not something I’m familiar with - but if anyone knows this, it will be the chaps on the RCGroups Forum. I thought the #11 used a standard USB plug, but my memory isn’t the best.

You answer is probably somewhere in this massive thread….

I’d recommend using the search facility to save you clicking through 659 pages.

Hi Techman.

Where and how can I download the config file to change settings on the No 18 808 camera? I am using an Apple Mac.

I have a black spot on the image which doesn't appear to be a piece of dust on the lens. Any ideas?

The Mic seems to have stopped working. Any ideas?

I look forward to hearing from you. Many thanks.

Hi Techmoan, first off, a massive thanks for all the excellent reviews you have was as a direct result of your reviews that I purchased my #18, and I have not been disappointed with either the terrific camera or the superb service from hxelepro360 who I purchase it from (about 1 ½ to 2 years had lots of fun using the camera!).

Unfortunately, I am now experiencing problems connecting to my PC. I have an original HD #18 that has stopped showing/being recognised when connected to my PCs. I have tried connecting it to my Macbook and Vista/PC, no luck with either. the red light flashes as normal when connected and the light changes to yellow (as it always has) after I click the power button - this normally gets it recognised and accessible, but now nothing happens. I have tried removing and reinserting the sd-card, using a different usb cable and pressing the reset button, but nothing seems to be working. I have also checked the sd-card via a card-reader using the h2testw utility tool for checking the health of the sd-card,and that gave results of no problems

Any help or advice would be really appreciated,

It just sounds like it's failing/failed to me...not much you could do to save it, if that's the case. It's had a pretty good run. You could always use a USB SD Card reader rather than attach it to your computer directly for a while.
