Spikenzielabs sent me over their latest watch kit, the Solder:Time II. Watch the video to see how I got on in assembling it.
I think that simple kits like these are an ideal gift to get someone who is developing an interest in electronics. If I had received something like this when I was 12 years old, I might have been encouraged to learn more about electronics. Unfortunately, when I was that age I actually got a book called "Fun with electronics" and none of the projects that I attempted to assemble worked. This discouraging experience deterred me from furthering any interest in electronics. So if you want to encourage and foster a young imagination rather than kill it off, you could do a lot worse than gift them a kit from Spikenzielabs.
