What SD CARD should I buy?

If you want an SD Card for your camera - these are the ones I use and recommend.

I'd strongly recommend not to buy any SD cards off ebay - I've heard about too many issues with counterfeit cards - often sold on by unwitting resellers. My inbox regularly gets messages from people who bought a £150 camera then cheaped out and bought a £3 memory card on ebay - Then when it doesn't worth they blame the camera! It doesn't make any sense. Good memory is cheaper than it's ever been - see the links above.

A lot of HD cameras will not work properly with cards larger than 32GB (cards over 32GB are usually SDXC rather than the SDHC standard used by 32GB cards. SDXC cards use the ex-FAT system rather than FAT32 - in short they are a different standard). - so don't just buy the biggest card you can afford - read the specs in the manual to see what it accepts.

RECOMMENDED CARDS (for action cams - see dashcams below)

CLASS 10 UHS-1 CARDS (For HD Cameras)

U3 CARD (For 4K cameras)

The SD card in a dashcam is re-written over, more frequently than in other types of cameras. Some manufacturers void their guarantee if an SD card was used in a dashcam. So, no surprise, there are special High Endurance SD cards made just for's some.

VERY IMPORTANT. These links take you to the product, however Amazon have three different ways of selling. There's Amazon Direct - This means that you are only dealing with Amazon themselves, then there's other sellers that use Amazon's facilities - these show as Fulfilled By Amazon and finally there's Market Place sellers that advertise on Amazon, but operate independently.  I strongly recommend that you only use the first...the Amazon Direct - Sold By Amazon option. Even if it appears that you are paying a couple of £/$ more it is more than likely you are comparing the price of a real item against the price of a fake.

To give you an idea of the extent of the fake goods problem. In a 2016 survey by Apple - 90% of the 'Apple' chargers sold through Amazon - using the other the two methods..which includes the "Fulfilled by Amazon" option -  were found to be counterfeit....90%!

SJ2000 Helmet Cam - Letting the family down

Chad McQueen, Don Swayze, Frank Stallone....sometimes it's hard to live up to a family name and the SJ2000 is no exception. The SJ1000 is a popular cheap action camera that punches well above it's weight, so you'd assume that if you transplanted it's innards into a metal waterproof tube then you would be onto a winner. It seems that it's not quite that easy...

When I realised that the SJ2000 wasn't a camera that I could recommend I decided to rush this video out quickly before the end of 2013, rather than kick off the new year with a disappointment.

Here are the Buying Links (but I'd suggest you look at the SJ1000 instead).

Hey Matt, thanks for a year full of interesting, addictive reviews!
Pitty for the SJ2000!
Maybe that one

is a more worthy sj1000 "next generation"?

Happy New Year!

There are so many similar cameras out now. I will be looking at the SJ4000 in a few weeks, but this is a bad time of year to try reviewing action cameras. I waited over a month before I could get a fine day to take the motorbike out.

Which sj4000? The gopro clone or the Sj1000 one??

December 30, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMAtt

Thanks for the review, disappointing indeed, seems like something they could fix with a firmware update though ?

That CVWL-I390 looks interesting with its (apparent) live feed to iOS/Android, hope it can be used to review the clips too, not just view them live like on the Sony AS15/AS30.

Interesting review!
I am considering to buy the SJ3000, because it has a remote control. The images looks very nice! Would you advice me the SJ3000 or another camera with a remote control? Or should I spend some more money and buy the Sony (because it has 120fps)? I don't know it yet...
Thanks for the reviews!

First of all I would like to say happy new year. SJ2000 looks so bad then 1000 but other two models looks nice SJ3000 and SJ4000. They are not bad. I am intresting with SJ4000 cause its looks like to Gopro and I think its compatible with gopro accessory. Could you review this models?

I think the SJ4000 has the same problem with direct sunlight. It uses the same chipset as the G1W, and this test video hold me back from buying it. I hope you get a newer firmware! It could be the first cheap camera with great mounting options and a waterproof case.

Are you going to review the SJ3000? Based on this youtube clip it doesn't have the same problem, and it can be mounted on the side of a motorcycle helmet.

Thanks for all of your reviews, I really enjoy them!

I asked for Christmas a GoPro (joke) or Mobius or SJ1000 or SJ4000 because I can't decide. Then I found a Hero3+ under the tree... still can't sleep because of the price/value ratio. But I hope my secondary camera will be a better bargain. :P

@Gerben The sj3000 design will be changed and the new version will support WIFI feature.
@Bulent The SJ4000 ompatible with gopro accessory.

January 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBill

@Bill That makes the SJ3000 even more interesting! Is there an article with the new design and specifications? When will the new version be released?

Im very happy with my career, thank you!
