What SD CARD should I buy?

If you want an SD Card for your camera - these are the ones I use and recommend.

I'd strongly recommend not to buy any SD cards off ebay - I've heard about too many issues with counterfeit cards - often sold on by unwitting resellers. My inbox regularly gets messages from people who bought a £150 camera then cheaped out and bought a £3 memory card on ebay - Then when it doesn't worth they blame the camera! It doesn't make any sense. Good memory is cheaper than it's ever been - see the links above.

A lot of HD cameras will not work properly with cards larger than 32GB (cards over 32GB are usually SDXC rather than the SDHC standard used by 32GB cards. SDXC cards use the ex-FAT system rather than FAT32 - in short they are a different standard). - so don't just buy the biggest card you can afford - read the specs in the manual to see what it accepts.

RECOMMENDED CARDS (for action cams - see dashcams below)

CLASS 10 UHS-1 CARDS (For HD Cameras)

U3 CARD (For 4K cameras)

The SD card in a dashcam is re-written over, more frequently than in other types of cameras. Some manufacturers void their guarantee if an SD card was used in a dashcam. So, no surprise, there are special High Endurance SD cards made just for's some.

VERY IMPORTANT. These links take you to the product, however Amazon have three different ways of selling. There's Amazon Direct - This means that you are only dealing with Amazon themselves, then there's other sellers that use Amazon's facilities - these show as Fulfilled By Amazon and finally there's Market Place sellers that advertise on Amazon, but operate independently.  I strongly recommend that you only use the first...the Amazon Direct - Sold By Amazon option. Even if it appears that you are paying a couple of £/$ more it is more than likely you are comparing the price of a real item against the price of a fake.

To give you an idea of the extent of the fake goods problem. In a 2016 survey by Apple - 90% of the 'Apple' chargers sold through Amazon - using the other the two methods..which includes the "Fulfilled by Amazon" option -  were found to be counterfeit....90%!

The Mini 0801 - Tiny 1080p GPS Car Camera with an LCD Screen

UPDATE 2014 - be sure to look at the New Improved 0803 Model HERE.

I finally have an answer for the people who ask me which Dashcam I use…. it's this one.

Up until this point whenever I finished reviewing a car camera, I removed it from my car and boxed it up again. This is the first camera that's earned a permanant place on my windscreen.

There are a couple of reasons for this - firstly one thing that shouldn't be underestimated is the WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor). I may be perfectly happy to live with a big piece of electronics hanging from the windscreen - but it's not completely down to me. The truth is though that I'm just as unhappy with anything messing up the car, however another more important concern is theft. Leaving an expensive device like a BlackVue camera in the windscreen is just not a good idea. To the average drug addict looking in car windows for something  to fund his next fix, you may as well have just left £50 on the passenger seat. However I'll be damned if I'm going to install and remove a camera every time I go for a short drive to the shops, I know that after a while I would get fed up doing it and leave it under a seat, and of course that's when something would happen.

However all those concerns are behind me because I've finally got a small car camera that appears to perform as well as any of the large devices that I've tried but that can be discretely mounted in a car and forgotten about.

Just prior to this camera's arrival I was thinking about how to permanently install the Mobius camera in my car and I still think that this would be a good alternative option if you can find some way to mount it, but I find that the design of the Mini 0801 fits better with my requirements.

@ youfermont

If your Mobuis was faulty then you should return it and if the only problem with the Mobius was connecting to a pc, that would be if its running windows 8 and that is easily sorted.

I've now received my Mobius. It works fine with Windows 8

FYI: We just found that the latest firmware to be the most stable yet!

PROCAM_CX4_v2_fw_2013-09-11.rar [2.6 Mb] (Count: 290) Firmware (FW VER: 20130911) for Procam CX4 revision 2. *

"The new firmware FW VER: 20130911 for DVRs Procam CX4 version 2.0 and above
with built-in memory of 8 GB." (works on those with out the internal memory as well)

1) storage format. MOV instead. TS
2) A higher bit rate recording
3) Optimized algorithm for processing and packaging of video
2) Increased stability of the device
3) Improved quality video at night and during daytime
4) Improved audio recording
5) new option "DELAY TIME POWER OFF" It lets the camera keep recording on battery power after power is shut off for up to 10 min. Options = 30 SEC, 2 MIN, 1o MIN, or OFF

I got the Russian 0911 firmware installed! Extract .bin from .zip.
Rename the firmware-NO1.bin to firmware-NO1-SPI-TB15.bin
Place it on the root of your microSD card. When you power on the camera it will prompt you to update yes/no (pick yes)
Once you upgrade it will be in Russian.
To change to english, open the settings menu, scroll up 4 clicks, hit OK, and scroll down to English.

More info.........
Look for язык (aka Language) and change Русский (aka Russian) to the BLANK spot and that's English. Now that it's English the blank spot is no longer blank. (actually says English)

I only skimmed over these translated forum posts in the past, after reading a bit more, there is a LOT of interesting in depth information here:

What's with all the Mobius talk in the Mini 0801 post? (move it to DashCamTalk guys)

@ JazJon

Considering this is your first cam, Im not sure how you are so full of expert advise on dash cams. I have had 6 so far and I dont pretend Im all knowing and that this is the best 'bang for buck' cam. How would I know? ............Oh well I guess if Id had more than one I might do.... but yet I still dont preach to others.

PS I am a professional photographer and know a little about cameras.

PPS who made you a MOD? Oh I see NOBODY

@ Russ Thats great to hear.

@ Keith LMAO

October 6, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMo

@ Keith, I'm just saying I'm subscribed to hear about 0801 buzz, not on going issues of a whole different camera.
I have 20 years of Electronics experience (was in the Air Force, EWS on the U2) My first dash cam was actually the DVR-207. I was looking for the best bang for the buck at the time but it sucked so bad I returned. it. I researched several more months before deciding on the Mini 0801. I know enough to enjoy helping others.

FYI the current best bang for the buck is the G1W. It has WDR (for outstanding night vision) and is only $52 USD / £32.45
(assuming you don't want GPS of course)

But yeah back to the 0801. CX4 Firmware 20100911 is going strong. I'm waiting for Givoe to get back to me for firmware 20130913 everyone is using. (arrives with) China has a national holiday and most re-sellers are closed for 2 weeks. I'm ready to try 20130913 since I'd rather use an official firmware long term. (not Procam CX4)

Again only use Class 4 or 6 cards and it won't trip up any more.

If you want to know "why" here's a possible explanation.

After doing some extensive reading on the site, where it explains that class 2, 4 and 6 cards use a standard speed bus, but the class 10 and the newer classification UHS-1 uses a far higher bus speed, with the new UHS-2 being even higher still, but these later cards can only give higher speeds in devices that support class 10 and the UHS specs.
Which basically helps to explain why the higher speed cards are less reliable in some devices.

It also states that class 4 & 6 does support HD video which we already know, but I definitely think that users of this Mini 0801 camera would be well advised to stick to Class-4 or Class-6 cards, as it sounds like the camera does not support the higher bus speeds of the faster cards and it's this that's causing the issues even though they are supposed to be backwards compatible.

Reading the articles on that site makes one understand better why we sometimes have issues with the so called faster cards on some devices.

So again, STICK WITH CLASS-4 or CLASS-6 which use the standard bus speed and all should be well.

I have to agree with JazJon. There is a separate review here on Mobius if people want to discuss Mobius.

Keith obviously you don't know JazJon well, this guy has been a guinea pig himself to test out and experiment with different firmwares, then came back and reported on his findings to us in Dashcam forum, I applaud his effort.

I myself have ordered a Mini 0801 and waiting for it, in the mean time I am keeping up with the news by JazJon, Niko and a few others at Dashcam forum to seek out the best firmware available.

This CX4 firmware has been reported by JazJon it does not allow you to change the G-sensor setting.

Final note, I am still waiting eagerly for for Phillippe to post his/her 3 dashcams video and comparison. Or has he/she given up?
