What SD CARD should I buy?

If you want an SD Card for your camera - these are the ones I use and recommend.

I'd strongly recommend not to buy any SD cards off ebay - I've heard about too many issues with counterfeit cards - often sold on by unwitting resellers. My inbox regularly gets messages from people who bought a £150 camera then cheaped out and bought a £3 memory card on ebay - Then when it doesn't worth they blame the camera! It doesn't make any sense. Good memory is cheaper than it's ever been - see the links above.

A lot of HD cameras will not work properly with cards larger than 32GB (cards over 32GB are usually SDXC rather than the SDHC standard used by 32GB cards. SDXC cards use the ex-FAT system rather than FAT32 - in short they are a different standard). - so don't just buy the biggest card you can afford - read the specs in the manual to see what it accepts.

RECOMMENDED CARDS (for action cams - see dashcams below)

CLASS 10 UHS-1 CARDS (For HD Cameras)

U3 CARD (For 4K cameras)

The SD card in a dashcam is re-written over, more frequently than in other types of cameras. Some manufacturers void their guarantee if an SD card was used in a dashcam. So, no surprise, there are special High Endurance SD cards made just for's some.

VERY IMPORTANT. These links take you to the product, however Amazon have three different ways of selling. There's Amazon Direct - This means that you are only dealing with Amazon themselves, then there's other sellers that use Amazon's facilities - these show as Fulfilled By Amazon and finally there's Market Place sellers that advertise on Amazon, but operate independently.  I strongly recommend that you only use the first...the Amazon Direct - Sold By Amazon option. Even if it appears that you are paying a couple of £/$ more it is more than likely you are comparing the price of a real item against the price of a fake.

To give you an idea of the extent of the fake goods problem. In a 2016 survey by Apple - 90% of the 'Apple' chargers sold through Amazon - using the other the two methods..which includes the "Fulfilled by Amazon" option -  were found to be counterfeit....90%!

The Mini 0801 - Tiny 1080p GPS Car Camera with an LCD Screen

UPDATE 2014 - be sure to look at the New Improved 0803 Model HERE.

I finally have an answer for the people who ask me which Dashcam I use…. it's this one.

Up until this point whenever I finished reviewing a car camera, I removed it from my car and boxed it up again. This is the first camera that's earned a permanant place on my windscreen.

There are a couple of reasons for this - firstly one thing that shouldn't be underestimated is the WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor). I may be perfectly happy to live with a big piece of electronics hanging from the windscreen - but it's not completely down to me. The truth is though that I'm just as unhappy with anything messing up the car, however another more important concern is theft. Leaving an expensive device like a BlackVue camera in the windscreen is just not a good idea. To the average drug addict looking in car windows for something  to fund his next fix, you may as well have just left £50 on the passenger seat. However I'll be damned if I'm going to install and remove a camera every time I go for a short drive to the shops, I know that after a while I would get fed up doing it and leave it under a seat, and of course that's when something would happen.

However all those concerns are behind me because I've finally got a small car camera that appears to perform as well as any of the large devices that I've tried but that can be discretely mounted in a car and forgotten about.

Just prior to this camera's arrival I was thinking about how to permanently install the Mobius camera in my car and I still think that this would be a good alternative option if you can find some way to mount it, but I find that the design of the Mini 0801 fits better with my requirements.

I just tested it again and when I unplug the device from the cig lighter it shuts down as expected. That is ok but the time keeps changing. I had it set properly when I just left the house and when I got back the time went from 8:30pm to 7am. Don't understand that.

If any one is interested I was driving on some neighborhood streets that aren't lit well and as you might expect the video wasn't very good - just barely acceptable but when I got on the main streets it was very good.

Overall I am happy with this unit.

I'm just wondering if you have the time settings wrong.
I don't have one of these yet but had similar issues with a different device.

If you set the time manually but have the options for time to be set by the GPS (If you have it) and have the wrong time zone this might account for the change.

Techmoan mentions this time issue in his video.

Today I test loop with the GPS off and turned off the GPS sensor.
I will write the test results as soon as I finish them

This will take a little time. Before each test with different settings, I format the SD card, then exclude mistakes of old files.

I have read the old comments that the problem of the loop does not occur when the video is recorded without sound. However, I tested this theory tomorrow

April 16, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterelbandito

I tested the GPS off and turned off the GPS sensor. Still when the memory is full looping does not work.
I just reset the settings to the default and format the memory card.
I'm starting to test the sound off.

If this does not help, it remains to find the old firmware where video files are recorded in TS format, not the. MOV. Probably Techmoan had such firmware and loop function properly.

hi wondering if anyone out there had any answers to my post of 14 April re gps speed showing on video on computer playback please

April 16, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterpaul

not wanting to drive anyone away from this site but a lot of the questions people are asking have been asked before on the DashCamTalk site, stacks of info on this model here

April 16, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterjokiin

Do not turn off the GPS. Just use the "STAMP".
You have several options burn subtitles on the video file:
Date - burns only date
Time - burns only time
Date and time - burns the date and time
GPS Data - burns the date, time, speed of and GPS coordinates
Number driver - burn the date, time and number of drivers

Number of driver you can set up in "Driver Number".

BTW. Do you have problem whit loop recording when SD card is full?

I bought the mini o8o1 about 2 months ago and am very pleased with it. I even managed to edit the clips in Adobe Elements. I downloaded the Car cam software on your review for GPS tracking and that has also worked well until this week when the GPS section works OK but though the sound comes through, the video doesn't appear. Was this software a time limited trial and if so what is the address to buy it? Otherwise is there a solution or an alternative. David.

It sounds like your codecs have got corrupted somehow. Download the k-lite Codec pack and that should resolve it.

many thanks to elbandito for explaining. For info got our 0801 from came with an original Samsung class 6 16gb card. camera was bit more expensive than e prance or sites on ebay but is a genuine 0801 and it is working fine and most importantly IS looping fine. excellent customer service and even had Lee the company MD spend considerable time on the phone to me after i left a message with the company thinking the cd disc was missing from the box to play the software on the computer for the gps. he explained it now goes on the sd card from the camera and talked us through it. however we are now viewing through registrator viewer and everything is fine. firmware version is 20140116. so impressed with company and camera getting another 0801 from them next week. (not getting 0803 yet until all software issues ironed out.)

April 16, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterpaul

@david jones

Is this the software you are referring to

April 16, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPeter West

It seems that the loop problem has been experienced by a number of users since the introduction of the MOV firmware.
On the other hand, the original TS format is not useable with the Viewer programs.

Read this thread on the dashcamtalk forum
It seems they have custom firmware (if you are prepared to experiment) which has rectified the loop problem amongst other issues.
I have not read it fully (over 18 pages) but will do so tomorrow - over a cup of coffee.

Sorry - forgot to post the link
Here it is

April 16, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPeter West

@ Peter

The video loop issue seems to be fixed with the latest firmware. At least that is based on the feedback I received.

April 17, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLawrence

@ Paul

Yes it is possible. Once the firmware is available, I will let you know. Thanks.

April 17, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLawrence

Thanks for the info.

At least we know know that it will work - either out of thebox with the new firmware, or with a rom from @Tobias - so I'll get one.
I'll try Foxoffer - £68 inc shipping for 8GB memory, GPS AND a second GPS mount for another car too!!

If the latest firmware is OK may even get @Tobias to customise with the car makers logo.

April 17, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPeter West

When I record with sound off loop function works correctly

April 17, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterelbandito

Thanks @elbandito -

Foxoffer have told me their units have the latest firmware dated 2014-04-10 and I was about to order.

However just to throw a spanner in the works as I was about to purchase I see that Foxoffer is advertising the new 103 (A7 processor) for a mere $10 more than the 101 - and it will be available in about 10 days (25-27th).

Decisions, decisions, decisions ;-(

April 17, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPeter West

Does anyone know what happens to the GPS files when their video file equivalent (I assume it's GPS01.log or something like that?) gets deleted in loop mode? I'd like to record the full track of a cross-country trip and only select video sections.

April 17, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterwebvan

elbandito many thanks for your reply yesterday to my query. for info using class 6 16gb genuine Samsung card on firmware 20140116 and card is looping perfectly. play footage back on computer via sd card reader and use registrator viewer. paid bit extra for the 0801 from but very pleased so far.

April 17, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPaul

Can somebody tell me if the Camera power supply is 5v.

I am looking to hard wire the 0801 into the fuse box but I want to check the voltage before buying it all.

Thanks, is the Joovvu 0801 (2014) the latest incaanation or is the Foxoffer the latest incarnation or will Joovuu have the 0803 soon. Thanks

April 17, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterZean

The next generation (803) is not out yet - and won't be until they fix some problems.
Those shops selling it now are selling fakes or beta mdels and are not being fair on customers as there are problems with the limited stock that is out there.

There is no release date for the fixed version as yet. See the forum discussing it here:

April 17, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPeter West

@ Zean

Yes, the camera uses 5vdc. You need to use a power adapter to step down the voltage from 12 to 5vdc.

Hope this helps.

April 17, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLawrence

Thanks elbandito for your post on 16th in response to my query on the gps settings mode. For info as you requested update my sd card is looping fine. Its a 6 class 16gb original Samsung card and camera is operating on firmware 20140116. I tend to view through registrator viewer and plays really smoothly.

April 18, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterpaul

you are recording with audio, or just video?

April 18, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterelbandito

elbandito only been using video since i purchased camera from few weeks ago will try audio and update you how that works with video.

April 18, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPaul

I see the domain is now up for sale !!!

April 18, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPeter West

Hi; I think the mini 0801 is brilliant, or more correctly it has been, unfortunately after 3 months it no longer appears to work. It will no longer turn on automatically when I start the car. Is this a known problem & does it have a simple solution? I'm a non-techie
