What SD CARD should I buy?

If you want an SD Card for your camera - these are the ones I use and recommend.

I'd strongly recommend not to buy any SD cards off ebay - I've heard about too many issues with counterfeit cards - often sold on by unwitting resellers. My inbox regularly gets messages from people who bought a £150 camera then cheaped out and bought a £3 memory card on ebay - Then when it doesn't worth they blame the camera! It doesn't make any sense. Good memory is cheaper than it's ever been - see the links above.

A lot of HD cameras will not work properly with cards larger than 32GB (cards over 32GB are usually SDXC rather than the SDHC standard used by 32GB cards. SDXC cards use the ex-FAT system rather than FAT32 - in short they are a different standard). - so don't just buy the biggest card you can afford - read the specs in the manual to see what it accepts.

RECOMMENDED CARDS (for action cams - see dashcams below)

CLASS 10 UHS-1 CARDS (For HD Cameras)

U3 CARD (For 4K cameras)

The SD card in a dashcam is re-written over, more frequently than in other types of cameras. Some manufacturers void their guarantee if an SD card was used in a dashcam. So, no surprise, there are special High Endurance SD cards made just for's some.

VERY IMPORTANT. These links take you to the product, however Amazon have three different ways of selling. There's Amazon Direct - This means that you are only dealing with Amazon themselves, then there's other sellers that use Amazon's facilities - these show as Fulfilled By Amazon and finally there's Market Place sellers that advertise on Amazon, but operate independently.  I strongly recommend that you only use the first...the Amazon Direct - Sold By Amazon option. Even if it appears that you are paying a couple of £/$ more it is more than likely you are comparing the price of a real item against the price of a fake.

To give you an idea of the extent of the fake goods problem. In a 2016 survey by Apple - 90% of the 'Apple' chargers sold through Amazon - using the other the two methods..which includes the "Fulfilled by Amazon" option -  were found to be counterfeit....90%!

The Mini 0801 - Tiny 1080p GPS Car Camera with an LCD Screen

UPDATE 2014 - be sure to look at the New Improved 0803 Model HERE.

I finally have an answer for the people who ask me which Dashcam I use…. it's this one.

Up until this point whenever I finished reviewing a car camera, I removed it from my car and boxed it up again. This is the first camera that's earned a permanant place on my windscreen.

There are a couple of reasons for this - firstly one thing that shouldn't be underestimated is the WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor). I may be perfectly happy to live with a big piece of electronics hanging from the windscreen - but it's not completely down to me. The truth is though that I'm just as unhappy with anything messing up the car, however another more important concern is theft. Leaving an expensive device like a BlackVue camera in the windscreen is just not a good idea. To the average drug addict looking in car windows for something  to fund his next fix, you may as well have just left £50 on the passenger seat. However I'll be damned if I'm going to install and remove a camera every time I go for a short drive to the shops, I know that after a while I would get fed up doing it and leave it under a seat, and of course that's when something would happen.

However all those concerns are behind me because I've finally got a small car camera that appears to perform as well as any of the large devices that I've tried but that can be discretely mounted in a car and forgotten about.

Just prior to this camera's arrival I was thinking about how to permanently install the Mobius camera in my car and I still think that this would be a good alternative option if you can find some way to mount it, but I find that the design of the Mini 0801 fits better with my requirements.

As always, an awesome review. I've already placed an order for the Mini 0801 (with GPS) and its on its way. However, I'm in a dilemma - I don't know what capacity of class 10 micro-SD to buy. What is the maximum memory this dashcam supports? This is one thing that wasn't covered in your review. Would be really helpful if you could shed some light on this.

The Mini 0801 manual recommends the use of Class 4 cards not Class 10.

I suggest that you browse the Mini 0801 thread at the dashcamtalk site. Most of the recent comments relate to problems with cards, firmware & hardware. Of course, people with problems post about them, the majority of owners doubtless don't post because they don't have a problem to resolve.

I have a Mac with OSX 10.8.5 Is there an operating system requirement for this device (needed either for updating firmware or for viewing video)? I'd prefer not to have to purchase VMWare or Parallels just because I'm interested in buying this device. Thank you.

@BIR: Check out these threads for viewing/merging/editing videos via Mac

You can always play each clip one at time or as a playlist in VLC Player. (free app)

Firmware is done by coming the bin file to the root micoSD card.

Today I found that my Mini 0801 is dead. The display is on, with all the icons, but no video image (background completely blackout). Please refer to the link below for photo captured. I've tried to format the SD card. Still no good. And there is no reset pin hole that I can reset the camera. So what should I do? Please help!

Assuming the lens is clear (didn't see you show the front) it appears to be a hardware malfunction. I'd return it for a new one. If you push hard enough some re-sellers will even refund the return shipping cost.

Yes, the lens is clear. I'm in contact with Lia of GIVOE Sales, who asked me to upload the video for their checking. Hope they will sort it out.

Hey Gary,

I had the exact same issue. When I wanted to make a video for givoe the camera slipped from my hand, and hit the table from about 1cm height. Not it works perfectly, it even cycles videos in the class 10 card...

Hi Guys
I have ordered one of these from E-prance, (E-PRANCE New Original Ambarella A2S60 Chip Mini 0801 5M pixel CMOS Car DVR Recorder + High Resolution Full HD 1080P 30 FPS, OV2710 + GPS Logger + G-sensor License Plate + H.264 + 135 Degree Wide Angle View£¬Support HDMI/TV Out )

If I buy separate mounts for different cars, do I have to buy the gps ones to have the gps feature or can I buy the none gps mount and still have the gps feature???
