What SD CARD should I buy?

If you want an SD Card for your camera - these are the ones I use and recommend.

I'd strongly recommend not to buy any SD cards off ebay - I've heard about too many issues with counterfeit cards - often sold on by unwitting resellers. My inbox regularly gets messages from people who bought a £150 camera then cheaped out and bought a £3 memory card on ebay - Then when it doesn't worth they blame the camera! It doesn't make any sense. Good memory is cheaper than it's ever been - see the links above.

A lot of HD cameras will not work properly with cards larger than 32GB (cards over 32GB are usually SDXC rather than the SDHC standard used by 32GB cards. SDXC cards use the ex-FAT system rather than FAT32 - in short they are a different standard). - so don't just buy the biggest card you can afford - read the specs in the manual to see what it accepts.

RECOMMENDED CARDS (for action cams - see dashcams below)

CLASS 10 UHS-1 CARDS (For HD Cameras)

U3 CARD (For 4K cameras)

The SD card in a dashcam is re-written over, more frequently than in other types of cameras. Some manufacturers void their guarantee if an SD card was used in a dashcam. So, no surprise, there are special High Endurance SD cards made just for's some.

VERY IMPORTANT. These links take you to the product, however Amazon have three different ways of selling. There's Amazon Direct - This means that you are only dealing with Amazon themselves, then there's other sellers that use Amazon's facilities - these show as Fulfilled By Amazon and finally there's Market Place sellers that advertise on Amazon, but operate independently.  I strongly recommend that you only use the first...the Amazon Direct - Sold By Amazon option. Even if it appears that you are paying a couple of £/$ more it is more than likely you are comparing the price of a real item against the price of a fake.

To give you an idea of the extent of the fake goods problem. In a 2016 survey by Apple - 90% of the 'Apple' chargers sold through Amazon - using the other the two methods..which includes the "Fulfilled by Amazon" option -  were found to be counterfeit....90%!

The Mini 0801 - Tiny 1080p GPS Car Camera with an LCD Screen

UPDATE 2014 - be sure to look at the New Improved 0803 Model HERE.

I finally have an answer for the people who ask me which Dashcam I use…. it's this one.

Up until this point whenever I finished reviewing a car camera, I removed it from my car and boxed it up again. This is the first camera that's earned a permanant place on my windscreen.

There are a couple of reasons for this - firstly one thing that shouldn't be underestimated is the WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor). I may be perfectly happy to live with a big piece of electronics hanging from the windscreen - but it's not completely down to me. The truth is though that I'm just as unhappy with anything messing up the car, however another more important concern is theft. Leaving an expensive device like a BlackVue camera in the windscreen is just not a good idea. To the average drug addict looking in car windows for something  to fund his next fix, you may as well have just left £50 on the passenger seat. However I'll be damned if I'm going to install and remove a camera every time I go for a short drive to the shops, I know that after a while I would get fed up doing it and leave it under a seat, and of course that's when something would happen.

However all those concerns are behind me because I've finally got a small car camera that appears to perform as well as any of the large devices that I've tried but that can be discretely mounted in a car and forgotten about.

Just prior to this camera's arrival I was thinking about how to permanently install the Mobius camera in my car and I still think that this would be a good alternative option if you can find some way to mount it, but I find that the design of the Mini 0801 fits better with my requirements.

Well I can say that I find two cam that I like that were review by Techmoan, the Mini 0801 full HD, and the Blackvue dr500gw-hd. While I like the blackvue dr500gw-hd the most, but it is to expensive, I will get it if I find it cheaper. The Mini 0801 is perfectly prize, but to have that LCD on all the time with no way to turn it off is a distraction, and that will drew attention to itself which you do not want. I think I will get it and find a make a cover with cardboard to cover the LCD.

I'm not sure where you got the idea that the screen doesn't blank out from. In the video I mention that I have mine set to switch off after 1min and show the on-screen options at 14:37.

@Asborn, I explained in several blog comments above and in youtube about the screen auto turning off after 1 minute. Works great!

GOOD NEWS! I just got a sample clip confirming .MOV is ready to ship!

Here's the RAW H.264 .MOV file I just received via sales support message so you can cut to the chase:

As an extra bonus we are now at 11MBps as well!

So yeah that's a sample clip from Aliexpress seller Givoe. I just got my shipping confirmation email too. I'll be selling my current .TS version if eBay seller eprance doesn't come out with a firmware update. If they do provide a firmware, my friend want's it for his car. (or I'll add it as my rear maybe)

So there you have it folks, .MOV and higher bitrate is now available.

More details.........

So are you saying that these cams are ripoffs/fakes of a branded product? !!!!!!!

September 4, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMartin Mackett

@Martin Mackett Most of these best bang for the buck camera's are programmed by Solution Providers to the re-sellers per batch often times with no ongoing or backwards support. That's why they are sold direct with no real brand name and at low cost. There is a brand name of the Mini 0801 in Russia called the ProCam CX4 sold at twice the price. (nothing is better about it either!)

I asked the NZ seller why they have "Brand Apple" on their product page and if they will have the new September firmware that records in .MOV He said:

"Yes i know its there... cant remove it (opencart issue) i delete it and it appears... oh well. we have direct contact with the manafacture and they will send and update Firmware once done. will have it on the site to download also, will advise once we have it."

I'm still not sure why you would want to pay $140 vs $100 though. (He's the most expensive so far)

It was pointed on youtube that the Double Sided Stick tape the 0801 window mount comes with is WHITE.
(and stands out too much from the outside)

I found some black tape on deal extreme for $3 (free shipping)
