What SD CARD should I buy?

If you want an SD Card for your camera - these are the ones I use and recommend.

I'd strongly recommend not to buy any SD cards off ebay - I've heard about too many issues with counterfeit cards - often sold on by unwitting resellers. My inbox regularly gets messages from people who bought a £150 camera then cheaped out and bought a £3 memory card on ebay - Then when it doesn't worth they blame the camera! It doesn't make any sense. Good memory is cheaper than it's ever been - see the links above.

A lot of HD cameras will not work properly with cards larger than 32GB (cards over 32GB are usually SDXC rather than the SDHC standard used by 32GB cards. SDXC cards use the ex-FAT system rather than FAT32 - in short they are a different standard). - so don't just buy the biggest card you can afford - read the specs in the manual to see what it accepts.

SPECIAL DASHCAM CARDS

The SD card in a dashcam is re-written over, more frequently than in other types of cameras. Some manufacturers void their guarantee if an SD card was used in a dashcam. So, no surprise, there are special High Endurance SD cards made just for dashcams...here's some.

VERY IMPORTANT. These links take you to the product, however Amazon have three different ways of selling. There's Amazon Direct - This means that you are only dealing with Amazon themselves, then there's other sellers that use Amazon's facilities - these show as Fulfilled By Amazon and finally there's Market Place sellers that advertise on Amazon, but operate independently.  I strongly recommend that you only use the first...the Amazon Direct - Sold By Amazon option. Even if it appears that you are paying a couple of £/$ more it is more than likely you are comparing the price of a real item against the price of a fake.

To give you an idea of the extent of the fake goods problem. In a 2016 survey by Apple - 90% of the 'Apple' chargers sold through Amazon - using the other the two methods..which includes the "Fulfilled by Amazon" option -  were found to be counterfeit....90%!

The Mini 0801 - Tiny 1080p GPS Car Camera with an LCD Screen

UPDATE 2014 - be sure to look at the New Improved 0803 Model HERE.

I finally have an answer for the people who ask me which Dashcam I use…. it's this one.

Up until this point whenever I finished reviewing a car camera, I removed it from my car and boxed it up again. This is the first camera that's earned a permanant place on my windscreen.

There are a couple of reasons for this - firstly one thing that shouldn't be underestimated is the WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor). I may be perfectly happy to live with a big piece of electronics hanging from the windscreen - but it's not completely down to me. The truth is though that I'm just as unhappy with anything messing up the car, however another more important concern is theft. Leaving an expensive device like a BlackVue camera in the windscreen is just not a good idea. To the average drug addict looking in car windows for something  to fund his next fix, you may as well have just left £50 on the passenger seat. However I'll be damned if I'm going to install and remove a camera every time I go for a short drive to the shops, I know that after a while I would get fed up doing it and leave it under a seat, and of course that's when something would happen.

However all those concerns are behind me because I've finally got a small car camera that appears to perform as well as any of the large devices that I've tried but that can be discretely mounted in a car and forgotten about.

Just prior to this camera's arrival I was thinking about how to permanently install the Mobius camera in my car and I still think that this would be a good alternative option if you can find some way to mount it, but I find that the design of the Mini 0801 fits better with my requirements.

It was pointed on youtube that the Double Sided Stick tape the 0801 window mount comes with is WHITE.
(and stands out too much from the outside)

I found some black tape on deal extreme for $3 (free shipping)

I'm not sure why she wants a massage though? j/k gotta love Engrish. I let her know to yes please send me the software update in 2 days. I'm still happy I bought a new one from Givoe though since the test shows it has no stuck/dead cmos sensor pixels. (they pre-tested it for me per my request) The current eprance one I have now has a dozen dead/stuck pixels that show up in still or low light shots. I'll either let my friend use it or try it as my rear cam

eBay seller eprance just sent me the new September .MOV firmware minutes ago, but I can't figure out how to update it.
Anyone have ideas?

@JazJon, which model did you go for? (from Givoe).
Not sure if the 8GB internal option is necessary, or if it has the correct firmware on it.
I was thinking on buying the GPS version with the 32GB card he is offering.

September 7, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterCavush

@Cavush, I was feeling adventurous so I got the GPS model WITH the extra internal 8GB as backup. (not sure I'll use it but curious) It was only a few more dollars. I'm looking forward to the new .MOV firmware with higher 11MBps bitrate and not having dead/stuck pixels any more like my old one had. I already have a 32GB class 10 Sandisk micoSD card I got from Amazon so didn't buy the full bundle.

The mobi'i (plural for mobius) that I have came with a small mount that was fitted in seconds in both vehicles.
I also have the one that looks like this one without the lcd screen in the rear of one of the vehicles.
