What SD CARD should I buy?

If you want an SD Card for your camera - these are the ones I use and recommend.

I'd strongly recommend not to buy any SD cards off ebay - I've heard about too many issues with counterfeit cards - often sold on by unwitting resellers. My inbox regularly gets messages from people who bought a £150 camera then cheaped out and bought a £3 memory card on ebay - Then when it doesn't worth they blame the camera! It doesn't make any sense. Good memory is cheaper than it's ever been - see the links above.

A lot of HD cameras will not work properly with cards larger than 32GB (cards over 32GB are usually SDXC rather than the SDHC standard used by 32GB cards. SDXC cards use the ex-FAT system rather than FAT32 - in short they are a different standard). - so don't just buy the biggest card you can afford - read the specs in the manual to see what it accepts.

RECOMMENDED CARDS (for action cams - see dashcams below)

CLASS 10 UHS-1 CARDS (For HD Cameras)

U3 CARD (For 4K cameras)

The SD card in a dashcam is re-written over, more frequently than in other types of cameras. Some manufacturers void their guarantee if an SD card was used in a dashcam. So, no surprise, there are special High Endurance SD cards made just for's some.

VERY IMPORTANT. These links take you to the product, however Amazon have three different ways of selling. There's Amazon Direct - This means that you are only dealing with Amazon themselves, then there's other sellers that use Amazon's facilities - these show as Fulfilled By Amazon and finally there's Market Place sellers that advertise on Amazon, but operate independently.  I strongly recommend that you only use the first...the Amazon Direct - Sold By Amazon option. Even if it appears that you are paying a couple of £/$ more it is more than likely you are comparing the price of a real item against the price of a fake.

To give you an idea of the extent of the fake goods problem. In a 2016 survey by Apple - 90% of the 'Apple' chargers sold through Amazon - using the other the two methods..which includes the "Fulfilled by Amazon" option -  were found to be counterfeit....90%!

The Mini 0801 - Tiny 1080p GPS Car Camera with an LCD Screen

UPDATE 2014 - be sure to look at the New Improved 0803 Model HERE.

I finally have an answer for the people who ask me which Dashcam I use…. it's this one.

Up until this point whenever I finished reviewing a car camera, I removed it from my car and boxed it up again. This is the first camera that's earned a permanant place on my windscreen.

There are a couple of reasons for this - firstly one thing that shouldn't be underestimated is the WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor). I may be perfectly happy to live with a big piece of electronics hanging from the windscreen - but it's not completely down to me. The truth is though that I'm just as unhappy with anything messing up the car, however another more important concern is theft. Leaving an expensive device like a BlackVue camera in the windscreen is just not a good idea. To the average drug addict looking in car windows for something  to fund his next fix, you may as well have just left £50 on the passenger seat. However I'll be damned if I'm going to install and remove a camera every time I go for a short drive to the shops, I know that after a while I would get fed up doing it and leave it under a seat, and of course that's when something would happen.

However all those concerns are behind me because I've finally got a small car camera that appears to perform as well as any of the large devices that I've tried but that can be discretely mounted in a car and forgotten about.

Just prior to this camera's arrival I was thinking about how to permanently install the Mobius camera in my car and I still think that this would be a good alternative option if you can find some way to mount it, but I find that the design of the Mini 0801 fits better with my requirements.

Hello again, I am having power problems with my 0801, I have to use an extension on the USB because my 12v socket is too far from the windscreen. If I plug directly into my power adapter the camera seems fine, now, after a few months, if I plug into the USB extension I am getting very intermittent power causing the camera to turn on/off or not on at all sometimes.

Is there a power adapter that anyone can link me to with a much longer cable so I don't have to use the USB extension please?

I've had problems before using USB extensions, no idea why they fail after a time because they don't get plugged/unplugged or moved once in place, very frustrating!!

I guess my only other option is to hard wire but I would like to wait until the car is out of warranty just in case of any problems.

Many thanks in advance

This may be a duplicate message but as yet I havent seen the original message I submitted the other day - however;

You can use the following cable to extend the length of the original power cable that came with the camera. Its thin enough and long enough to tuck in behind the windscreen and door trims to reach the cigar lighter socket wherever it is in your vehicle. If you dont think it will be long enough, buy two and plug them together. It works fine in my vehicle - even reaches the rear power socket between the driver and passenger seats.

Available from Amazon and elsewhere.

Thank you for the cable info, it's that one I've been using in the past, but I think the problem may have been where I tucked it behind a panel, I think it may have been getting pinched and damaged the cable so I'll try another and hope that solves the problem.

many thanks for your help :-)

Hi Techmoan,
I live in Melbourne. Not too hot here, but I have overheated three DVRs in last few years. Inside park car is hotter that outside. 25-35 is normal temperature here is summer. Sometimes go higher upto 40.
I want a camera which I just mount once and forget. I have bought two cheap cameras, then GS9000 with GPS. Been a good camera. But overheated at last.
Then I bought COWON AW1. Working fine from last two years. It's bit expensive and difficult to setup as it doesn't have built in screen. And shoots 720p footage. But nice small shape. Doing well.
I seen your videos. And wanted to go for mini 0803 for my other car. But I have read that it also have overheating issues.
Plz suggest me a camera. As I don't want gps. I was willing to buy 0803. How about 0801?

0803 is a problem model, not good for warmer climates, 0801 runs cooler but still probably not ideal

March 5, 2015 | Unregistered Commenterjokiin

Yes that's what I hear. The 0805 is supposed to have better heat handling capabilities.

Hi, I have the Naito V2 GPS (mini 0801 spin off), i cant connect to my PC (Win 8.1) (Device Descriptor failed), so need a driver for it? and i have recently found a problem that camera will not turn on now, i have a red light for a few mins and then goes off, think ill be sending it back unless anyone here has a few ideas??? (reset doesnt work too)

Hi Lee,

Ref device drivers, quite frankly, I wouldnt bother with them. Its just as easy to remove the Micro SD card and use an SD card reader connected to your computer instead to read your info. My old 0801 never did work with the inbuilt driver, but after over a year, it still sits in the windscreen happily overwriting the data on the SD card. I sincerely hope it will never be needed to record any mishaps. Regarding your own device, it sounds suspiciously like you've bought a lemon. It will do harm if you can manage to swap it out for a new one.

Had one for about 7 months; good picture quality and simple to use. But now has taken to turning off and on randomly; I restart recording by pressing the OK button, bit not ideal when moving. Is there a fix or software update, or is it now junk?
