What SD CARD should I buy?

If you want an SD Card for your camera - these are the ones I use and recommend.

I'd strongly recommend not to buy any SD cards off ebay - I've heard about too many issues with counterfeit cards - often sold on by unwitting resellers. My inbox regularly gets messages from people who bought a £150 camera then cheaped out and bought a £3 memory card on ebay - Then when it doesn't worth they blame the camera! It doesn't make any sense. Good memory is cheaper than it's ever been - see the links above.

A lot of HD cameras will not work properly with cards larger than 32GB (cards over 32GB are usually SDXC rather than the SDHC standard used by 32GB cards. SDXC cards use the ex-FAT system rather than FAT32 - in short they are a different standard). - so don't just buy the biggest card you can afford - read the specs in the manual to see what it accepts.

RECOMMENDED CARDS (for action cams - see dashcams below)

CLASS 10 UHS-1 CARDS (For HD Cameras)

U3 CARD (For 4K cameras)

The SD card in a dashcam is re-written over, more frequently than in other types of cameras. Some manufacturers void their guarantee if an SD card was used in a dashcam. So, no surprise, there are special High Endurance SD cards made just for's some.

VERY IMPORTANT. These links take you to the product, however Amazon have three different ways of selling. There's Amazon Direct - This means that you are only dealing with Amazon themselves, then there's other sellers that use Amazon's facilities - these show as Fulfilled By Amazon and finally there's Market Place sellers that advertise on Amazon, but operate independently.  I strongly recommend that you only use the first...the Amazon Direct - Sold By Amazon option. Even if it appears that you are paying a couple of £/$ more it is more than likely you are comparing the price of a real item against the price of a fake.

To give you an idea of the extent of the fake goods problem. In a 2016 survey by Apple - 90% of the 'Apple' chargers sold through Amazon - using the other the two methods..which includes the "Fulfilled by Amazon" option -  were found to be counterfeit....90%!

The Mini 0801 - Tiny 1080p GPS Car Camera with an LCD Screen

UPDATE 2014 - be sure to look at the New Improved 0803 Model HERE.

I finally have an answer for the people who ask me which Dashcam I use…. it's this one.

Up until this point whenever I finished reviewing a car camera, I removed it from my car and boxed it up again. This is the first camera that's earned a permanant place on my windscreen.

There are a couple of reasons for this - firstly one thing that shouldn't be underestimated is the WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor). I may be perfectly happy to live with a big piece of electronics hanging from the windscreen - but it's not completely down to me. The truth is though that I'm just as unhappy with anything messing up the car, however another more important concern is theft. Leaving an expensive device like a BlackVue camera in the windscreen is just not a good idea. To the average drug addict looking in car windows for something  to fund his next fix, you may as well have just left £50 on the passenger seat. However I'll be damned if I'm going to install and remove a camera every time I go for a short drive to the shops, I know that after a while I would get fed up doing it and leave it under a seat, and of course that's when something would happen.

However all those concerns are behind me because I've finally got a small car camera that appears to perform as well as any of the large devices that I've tried but that can be discretely mounted in a car and forgotten about.

Just prior to this camera's arrival I was thinking about how to permanently install the Mobius camera in my car and I still think that this would be a good alternative option if you can find some way to mount it, but I find that the design of the Mini 0801 fits better with my requirements.

Typical dashcams now have a very good quality of video recording. Car manufacturers should pre install them in the cars they manufacture. Installment of cams like these could help parents with looking out for their children.

I have two Mini 801's fitted, one in the front windscreen and the other in the rear window, at first the recordings were great, but now the recording when played back through my laptop are very jerky with a stop start action, a couple of seconds during the recordings will skip forward "both camera's have this problem", but the background music/noise is perfect..

The same problem exists when I use the SD card with a card reader...

Any idea what's causing the problem..

The problem is on the laptop. Install the k-lite codec pack to update your codecs.

Hi all, my cameras have started to give recording problems, I wondered if anyone has the same problem?

Turn my ignition on and the camera usually starts up and begins recording, recently it is starting up but with a grey screen and something about the movie, and doesn't start recording until you select yes/no.

Is this simply a memory card problem or the camera on it's way out? I haven't got another memory card to try in it but have tried different firmwares without any luck.

Many thanks for any advice

The battery in my Mini 0801 Dashcam had outlived its usefulness and no longer held a charge.
A few weeks ago I replaced the battery with a rechargeable Lipo Helicopter 3.7 volts 380 mAh
Battery and so far it seems to be functioning okay.
I am wondering how safe is it to continue using this lipo lithium battery in the dash-cam on
a long term basis. (whether the battery can over heat and explode etc.)

I have a 1080 Dash Cam and of late it has been playing up inasmuch as some recording which are set for 1 minute come up as EG AMBA1552.IDX instead of AMBA1552.Mov and are not view able

The other thing that is happening is trying to access the Menu has become very difficult and unresponsive so I am not sure what the problem is so can anyone offer some advice.

Also is there a way to download the latest software and if so "How"

Thank You
