What SD CARD should I buy?

If you want an SD Card for your camera - these are the ones I use and recommend.

I'd strongly recommend not to buy any SD cards off ebay - I've heard about too many issues with counterfeit cards - often sold on by unwitting resellers. My inbox regularly gets messages from people who bought a £150 camera then cheaped out and bought a £3 memory card on ebay - Then when it doesn't worth they blame the camera! It doesn't make any sense. Good memory is cheaper than it's ever been - see the links above.

A lot of HD cameras will not work properly with cards larger than 32GB (cards over 32GB are usually SDXC rather than the SDHC standard used by 32GB cards. SDXC cards use the ex-FAT system rather than FAT32 - in short they are a different standard). - so don't just buy the biggest card you can afford - read the specs in the manual to see what it accepts.

RECOMMENDED CARDS (for action cams - see dashcams below)

CLASS 10 UHS-1 CARDS (For HD Cameras)

U3 CARD (For 4K cameras)

The SD card in a dashcam is re-written over, more frequently than in other types of cameras. Some manufacturers void their guarantee if an SD card was used in a dashcam. So, no surprise, there are special High Endurance SD cards made just for's some.

VERY IMPORTANT. These links take you to the product, however Amazon have three different ways of selling. There's Amazon Direct - This means that you are only dealing with Amazon themselves, then there's other sellers that use Amazon's facilities - these show as Fulfilled By Amazon and finally there's Market Place sellers that advertise on Amazon, but operate independently.  I strongly recommend that you only use the first...the Amazon Direct - Sold By Amazon option. Even if it appears that you are paying a couple of £/$ more it is more than likely you are comparing the price of a real item against the price of a fake.

To give you an idea of the extent of the fake goods problem. In a 2016 survey by Apple - 90% of the 'Apple' chargers sold through Amazon - using the other the two methods..which includes the "Fulfilled by Amazon" option -  were found to be counterfeit....90%!

For crying out loud - just stop getting scammed.

I’ve received an email from someone who has sent money to a random paypal address and are now asking me where their goods are. Apparently the people who requested the money must have said that they are associated with I have no idea what the scammers claimed to be selling.

Let me spell this out. I do not sell anything. I do not charge for anything. I do not want your money.

The way that this website works is as follows. I buy things. I make youtube videos about those things. I then link the video description box back to where I have useful links or sample clips. It’s the simplest idea in the world.

The way I make money is from the youtube and website adverts that are automatically served by Google Adsense, as well as from any purchases made via the affiliated ebay and Amazon links you’ll find under each article. That’s it. Nothing else.

If a manufacturer of a product wants to contact me (I’ve stopped interacting with resellers) then there is a CONTACT ME box on the ABOUT page. This sends me an email. If I respond to the email, the response will only come from the domain @TECHMOAN.COM.

Just in case you don't know how a scam works, you may recall the bloke who sold the Eiffel Tower for scrap or the chaps who sold the Statue of Liberty, or Tower Bridge. Those items weren’t really for sale and the person ‘selling’ them was not acting on behalf of the true owners. Anyone who paid money to acquire those items will have lost it

Scams nowadays are easier because the internet means that there's no need for face to face contact. So there is nothing to stop someone setting up the email address HRHTheQueen@GMAIL and then offering to sell the Crown Jewels for a tenner.  It’s highly unlikely that you would fall for that, so don’t fall for someone setting up a I’mTechmoanHonestGuv@GMAIL and asking for your money or products.

I never actively ask anyone to send me anything. All contacts are first made as incoming messages from the CONTACT ME form on this website.

All I want to do is make videos and I really don’t need this extra nonsense. The last thing I want to receive when I’m sat at my desk (doing my day job) is an angry email threatening to get the police on me and shut down the website.

This is a one-man website - I’m that man. I do everything here, my name is Mat. The person who emailed me apparently sent their money to two people called Adam and Jamie - neither of those are me. You may have seen the warning I posted on my website last year about a scammer using the email address techmoanreviews@gmail that isn’t me either.

All you have to remember is that I just make videos and you don’t have to pay me anything. If you want to give your money to a random stranger, then put it in their hand in the street, don’t send it to a paypal address for someone you’ve never met or researched.

I don't do Facebook, I rarely post anything to @Techmoan on Twitter (other than automatic youtube updates) and I have just one youtube account (

Now please let me get back to making videos...that's all I've ever wanted to do since I started this back in 2009.

Soooo..... I guess I'm not getting my autographed rollie egg cooker then. Bummer.

Don't let it get to you Mat. I for one am addicted to your videos and want this site to grow and grow. Although, I am curious as to what happens to all the stuff that doesn't quite make the mark. Does it get returned? Trashed? Or perhaps it's all piled into a closet waiting to topple on an unsuspecting house guest looking for the bathroom...

Keep up the good work.

I have seen a lot of people fall for things like this. It's really sad that people lack the common sense to keep themselves safe online. :(

January 28, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterSean

You can see why I don't get involved in selling anything. Things also get horrendously complicated with self assessment tax if I was to sell anything - it all needs to be declared very carefully - how much is gained on each item. So to answer your question - I don't sell anything and never will. I do give some items to charity, friends and family. Some are kept for future reference - ie. used in a video when an updated version is released and some items are recycled.

I understand all that, but I would still like to buy a ringtone that says "Anyway, that's it for the moment. As always; thanks for watching"

January 28, 2015 | Unregistered Commenterlagerstarfishl

I guess the only solution is to make this post sticky, or a banner in the header, with yellow flashing text on ref background. They'll get the idea.

January 28, 2015 | Unregistered Commenterfreddy

Yes there is going to be a link on the sidebar to this message to stop it getting missed when it falls of the front page.

You only have one T in Matt? Is that a British thing?

January 29, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterMatt

Mat, I'm really sorry that you have to go through this. I hope that this type of tomfoolery will stop soon. I really look forward to watching your reviews; they're always entertaining and informative. I secretly wish there were techmoan reviews for (food, clothes, dentists, women;-)...)lol! Your videos + advice are unique and scarce treasures. ---a devoted fan, mykal

Adam and the poor bloke got scammed by the MythBusters?

January 29, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterThis Does Not Compute

I think I would just send a "Sorry you got scammed" email then block their address.

January 29, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterRandom

It was you you bastard! I cleared a bookshelf in anticipation of the Crown Jewels, I even invited family to come and view them, imagine how embarrassed I was only being able to display an empty shelf. I want my tenna back!

January 29, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterJulian

@Mat The reason I spell Mat as Mat and not the more traditional Matt is so that it would fit into the High Score tables in 1980s arcade games. Also I think if I'm shortening something then I may as well drop the extra silent T.

It's remarkably easy to extract money from a fool . . .

(and of course it's never their fault)

January 29, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterTim

I am sorry to hear for your troubles. I am a big fan of yours (I believe just like many of us here), it's a pitty one gets hard time for anotherones mistakes. I hope that this will still leave you good vibe for upcoming reviews.

Keep up the good work Mat always love reading your review and wit mate .. as Barnum and Bailey use to say "Theirs a sucker born every minute" even though this saying was actually done by David Hannum regarding Barnum haha but you get the gis

Dont't let the bastards get you down. If they are that stupid they deserve to get scammed.

See the plus side - You're famous!. Enough to be used by scammers anyway - Nobody is ever going to do that with me.

Hi Mat,
I just sent $100 Australian dollars to your PayPal account (that's worth about 3 pounds at the moment). When is my virtual widget going arrive?
Seriously though, your reviews are world renowned and becoming industry standard in dashcam world. Keep up the great work. I am an Aussie Vicavation reseller so I'll understand if you don't reply :-)

January 30, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterChris

Keep up the great work, Mat. Those of us who are tech-savvy enough to know a scam when they see it will continue to enjoy your reviews.

Bugger , that explains why the delivery of Tower Bridge is taking so long......

Hi Mat,

About year ago i truly become your fan and now i'm sorry to hear your story...That's so bad then people are trying to use your name in a bad way..What i wanted to say is Thank you, please get it over. You do a great job) Regards Emil (Russian Federation)

January 31, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterEmil

it could even have been that the person who contacted you made up the whole story about being scammed in the hope you would feel sorry for him and send him something. Who knows these days, these things can be so involved.
Anyway looking forward to more reviews.

Would anyone think that these so called scammed complainers to Matt are the actual scam artists themselves?
Matt has a big heart, eh? Guess where I live?
Keep up the great videos Matt. Found you online about six months ago and have been following you ever since. I enjoy the way you talk to the people and the unique style you have of letting your watchers, if you will, allow them to make their own decisions.
I am trying to find an area on Techmoan to go so that I could ask you a question or two about what you have presented on your You Tube videos. Keep up the great review work that you are providing for newbies like myself.

As far as I can tell that's a bean to cup espresso machine. I'm aware that it is possible to use any of espresso machine to make an Americano or a Lungo, but what I really like in the morning is a big mug of filter coffee (like getting a Venti Filter Coffee from Starbucks.

I got to know Techmoan web site for only two days and I did instantly join your subscribers pot. Your articles, reviews, videos and comments are so much fun to read and listen. Even this 'Stop Getting Scammed' piece is perfect.
All the best!

Howdy Mat,
I just recently found your videos on YouTube while searching for reviews on helmet cams. You have a remarkable talent for this kind of work, and I have benefitted greatly from it. I know that you are not soliciting from your viewers, but if the "TipMe" link were enabled I would gladly show my appreciation.
Thanks again,
