What SD CARD should I buy?

If you want an SD Card for your camera - these are the ones I use and recommend.

I'd strongly recommend not to buy any SD cards off ebay - I've heard about too many issues with counterfeit cards - often sold on by unwitting resellers. My inbox regularly gets messages from people who bought a £150 camera then cheaped out and bought a £3 memory card on ebay - Then when it doesn't worth they blame the camera! It doesn't make any sense. Good memory is cheaper than it's ever been - see the links above.

A lot of HD cameras will not work properly with cards larger than 32GB (cards over 32GB are usually SDXC rather than the SDHC standard used by 32GB cards. SDXC cards use the ex-FAT system rather than FAT32 - in short they are a different standard). - so don't just buy the biggest card you can afford - read the specs in the manual to see what it accepts.

RECOMMENDED CARDS (for action cams - see dashcams below)

CLASS 10 UHS-1 CARDS (For HD Cameras)

U3 CARD (For 4K cameras)

The SD card in a dashcam is re-written over, more frequently than in other types of cameras. Some manufacturers void their guarantee if an SD card was used in a dashcam. So, no surprise, there are special High Endurance SD cards made just for's some.

VERY IMPORTANT. These links take you to the product, however Amazon have three different ways of selling. There's Amazon Direct - This means that you are only dealing with Amazon themselves, then there's other sellers that use Amazon's facilities - these show as Fulfilled By Amazon and finally there's Market Place sellers that advertise on Amazon, but operate independently.  I strongly recommend that you only use the first...the Amazon Direct - Sold By Amazon option. Even if it appears that you are paying a couple of £/$ more it is more than likely you are comparing the price of a real item against the price of a fake.

To give you an idea of the extent of the fake goods problem. In a 2016 survey by Apple - 90% of the 'Apple' chargers sold through Amazon - using the other the two methods..which includes the "Fulfilled by Amazon" option -  were found to be counterfeit....90%!

The Dazzne P2 - Budget Action Camera Review

The Dazzne P2 is a budget action camera that comes with a surprising number of accessories inside the box for a very reasonable price. Surely there must be a the video below where I find out that sometimes good things do come in small packages.

UPDATE 2017 - I've been advised that replacement batteries are nigh on impossible to find. Please factor this information in when making your purchasing decision. The supplied batteries aren't the most robust.

2 things - supposedly the usb mic can work with this...I wonder how tru this is and what type of ext mic...thinking of putting the mic on my motorcycle to capture ext sound
The P3 - now can record in 1080/60fps and has wifi and smart app...not bad....Is it worth a revue?

Thanks Mat, another excellent straightforward and helpful review, just the facts and your very experienced evaluation.

You tempted me into buying one and I'm very pleased with it.

I bought the Sony AS30 last year and was/am happy with it, but I fancied a Gopro shaped camera for additional mounting options with the completely different case orientation. I'll be keeping both, and use them equally I think.

The rear LCD has huge working advantages, much better than the remote viewfinder I bought for my AS30.

I miss the image stabilisation, but the super wide angle minimises shake anyway.

I've already bought the open frame holder and the additional waterproof case with a side opening to the USB port, for £7 and £11 respectively.

I think I'll drill a small hole in the non-waterproof case to expose the microphone hole on top to get better sound., then I'll regard it as a semi-weatherproof case which the camera will be used in most of the time.

Techmoan, based on your great reviews, I'm tempted to get the Dazzne P2 camera. However, since there is also a P3 version, I'd like to you know if you plan to review it anytime soon, and whether I should wait for your review before getting it.
Please let me know, if you're going to review P3 in the future.
Thank you!

Couple of questions ..

1. How did you mount the camera in you pocket ? does it attach/secure to something or just pop it in ?
2. Did you have the waterproof case attached, audio sounds clearer to mine when it the case on .. tried looking for an open case but can't seem to find anything in the UK.

Thank you

Hey there ! Have you tried the dazzne p3? Just wandering wich one to buy between p2 and p3 :)

Thanks for all your good review out here !

August 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterAriane

Just ordered the P3 too :)
So much bang for buck imho.

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterS.

Took my P2 to the racetrack, it did quite well, especially considering the price. Overshone my SJ1K and SJ4K by a lot. It deals really well with light changes and the whole shot just looks, well nice. The sensor is fast and deals well in movement, well, I liked a lot what I was seeing :) .
Here is sort of edited highlight-ish stuff:
And here a playlist with all the footage from the day:

Hi all. Has anyone got to the bottom of the external mic on the Dazzne? I know they say you need a special lead but no idea what they mean by this or which lead they mean! Want a camera for motovlogging and this would be perfect if I could use an external mic :)

August 17, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterDave

@Dave, for using with external MIC, maybe you can think about the GITUP GIT1 cam, it support external MIC and remote control. A VLOG video recorded by GIT1 for your reference:

There is a recent $70 WiFi addition to these GoPro/P2 offerings - KingCool. No practical info available yet.

Hi there. My waterproof case for Dazzne P2 is broken and i can't find another on the internet.
Do you know if Dazzne P2 fits in with other waterproof case of other brands, for example SJ or GoPro? I know that the buttoms of Dazzne are not the same as for example GoPro, but this i not that important to me, i just need a waterproof case for my Dazzne P2.

Excuse my bad english :)

Look better 😛
Also Everbuying has it.

September 2, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterS.

Just a note to see if anyone else is having difficulty in using gopro studio to edit videos from the Dazzne P2?
I can import them into Studio, but as soon as I try to convert them, Studio just crashes. If the footage comes direct from a Gopro, there is no issue - so I am not sure if Studio will not work with anything other than movies from a Gopro?
I see that Dazzne make their own "studio", but I cannot see it anywhere to actually download and try. Any ideas?
Any guidance would be super.

Hi great review but one question does the dazzne p2/p3 have the ability to work with a remote and if so where could I find one??

September 9, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterCathal

The P3 has WiFi so your phone is the remote. The P2 doesn't have any radio transmitter/receiver so is a standalone device.

September 9, 2015 | Registered CommenterTechmoan

Your reviews are brilliant. Ive spent all weekend watching them. Im in the market for an action cam and from your reviews i think ill be going for the P2, unless a firmware upgrade improves the quality of the 1080p 60 footage on the p3 in which case i will opt for that. However i recently heard a bit about a camera called the Gitup git1, which seems to have potential with some interesting features. It would be awesome to get a review of that camera from you and your opinion on how it compares to the p2 and other cameras youve reviewed.

Here is a link if your interested.

It seems this is a usable external Mic for the Dazzne action cam :

September 14, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterS.

I think this might be better as it has the adapter and the mic - - just ordered

September 14, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterCarlos

You're absolutely right Carlos. I was too quick with my post, didn't notice there was no mic in the first productlink.
I ordered the first. But i have a mic here already, so that's fine for me.

September 14, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterS.

I suggest using the USB microphone directly, no necessary to use adapter.

September 14, 2015 | Unregistered Commentergitup

Hey Techmoan,
Great work by the way and really appreciate how thorough you are with your testing!!!
So I need an action camera!!!
I've watched a lot of your videos and decided that i was going to buy the P2.
Then i realised that i kinda need (really want) image stabilization.
Could you please recommend something that wont break the bank like a GOPRO would????

Regards, Dan.

September 17, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterDan

The only action cameras I've used with image stabilisation are the Sony AS range. You can often get some of the older models discounted.

Hi Matt, I came across you on YouTube today and became a subscriber. Love your videos! I am a new vlogger
that videos pranks, food challenges, skits and funny videos with my kids. Kiddostubehd is our YouTube channel. So I need a camera that I can upload clear videos to my Youtube channel and has a good mic to pick up our voices. I don't want to spend several hundred dollars on a GoPro currently so what would you recommend for my needs? Thanks so much.

September 29, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterMike

All action cams have fixed focus wide angle lenses. For your purposes you would be better off with a traditional camera with autofocus and a zoom. There's so many similar cameras out there you are better off looking for a good deal yourself and checking out a few reviews. I like Sony cameras as they seem to be particularly good at video.

September 29, 2015 | Registered CommenterTechmoan

Hi Matt or any other readers

I've bought one of these (1.16v) from But i am having problems playing the .MOV file format. VLC nor Quicktime will play the files (unsupported file, is the message i get from both packages).

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks for your thorough review of this action cam. After watching your your youtube videos, I purchased this for outdoor use and as a dash cam. I have read that after the firmware update, it will either lockup or stop recording. I noticed that in dash cam mode, I may get about 15 minutes of recording with the red light blinkinf, after that, all I see is a blue light. When pressing the shutter button to awake the OSD, it just shows a solid red dot on the screen but seems to not be recording. I have to press the shutter button to unlock the screen with a sound indicator to remove the red dot on the display and then press the shutter button again to resume recording.

Everyone else having the same problem after the newest firmware update?

Thanks in adavnce

October 22, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterTony

Just clarifying. Did you update the firmware on your camera yourself or did it arrive like this?

October 23, 2015 | Registered CommenterTechmoan

My cam arrived with the updated firmware.

Also did a test again yesterday and confirmed what i mentioned prior that when it locks up and the blue light indicator flashes (cam powered by car charger and not battery), I have to press the shutter (record) button to wake the OSD to get out of the steady read dot screen since it is not axtually recording.

Hope we can identify if it affects only a few or all after newest update.

October 23, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterTony

So I ordered this for a biking holiday in Spain. It arrived just in time. But having used it for 2 days, it's really quite bad. I suspect mine is faulty.

I have it set on one button record of 1080/30, and screen timeout of a minute. It will record one video about 2 to 3 mins in length. After which the battery dies. After that the battery lasts about 10 seconds before shutting off again.

Be interested to know if anyone else has had similar issues. And if there are any solutions.
