What SD CARD should I buy?

If you want an SD Card for your camera - these are the ones I use and recommend.

I'd strongly recommend not to buy any SD cards off ebay - I've heard about too many issues with counterfeit cards - often sold on by unwitting resellers. My inbox regularly gets messages from people who bought a £150 camera then cheaped out and bought a £3 memory card on ebay - Then when it doesn't worth they blame the camera! It doesn't make any sense. Good memory is cheaper than it's ever been - see the links above.

A lot of HD cameras will not work properly with cards larger than 32GB (cards over 32GB are usually SDXC rather than the SDHC standard used by 32GB cards. SDXC cards use the ex-FAT system rather than FAT32 - in short they are a different standard). - so don't just buy the biggest card you can afford - read the specs in the manual to see what it accepts.

RECOMMENDED CARDS (for action cams - see dashcams below)

CLASS 10 UHS-1 CARDS (For HD Cameras)

U3 CARD (For 4K cameras)

The SD card in a dashcam is re-written over, more frequently than in other types of cameras. Some manufacturers void their guarantee if an SD card was used in a dashcam. So, no surprise, there are special High Endurance SD cards made just for's some.

VERY IMPORTANT. These links take you to the product, however Amazon have three different ways of selling. There's Amazon Direct - This means that you are only dealing with Amazon themselves, then there's other sellers that use Amazon's facilities - these show as Fulfilled By Amazon and finally there's Market Place sellers that advertise on Amazon, but operate independently.  I strongly recommend that you only use the first...the Amazon Direct - Sold By Amazon option. Even if it appears that you are paying a couple of £/$ more it is more than likely you are comparing the price of a real item against the price of a fake.

To give you an idea of the extent of the fake goods problem. In a 2016 survey by Apple - 90% of the 'Apple' chargers sold through Amazon - using the other the two methods..which includes the "Fulfilled by Amazon" option -  were found to be counterfeit....90%!

The Dazzne P2 - Budget Action Camera Review

The Dazzne P2 is a budget action camera that comes with a surprising number of accessories inside the box for a very reasonable price. Surely there must be a the video below where I find out that sometimes good things do come in small packages.

UPDATE 2017 - I've been advised that replacement batteries are nigh on impossible to find. Please factor this information in when making your purchasing decision. The supplied batteries aren't the most robust.

I purchased this for an off road motorcycling holiday. However for the whole weekend i couldnt get it to record a clip any longer than 3min40sec. At first i used it with the manual record setting and the battery would die after about 3 mins of the first clip recorded. After which it would on record clips up to about 20 seconds. After that i tried with the one button power on instant record mode, still the same would happen. It would die after approximately 3 mins. Ive tried charging the batteries in the supplied charger as well as in the camera but still the problem persists. Has anybody else had trouble with the battery life on this camera?

November 10, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterDamien Stanworth

@Damien Stanworth: This happens when you don´t charge your batteries properly, especially the first few cycles. In your defense, it wasn´t really stated in the instructions (unless they´ve added it since). After depleting the battery, let it charge for several hours (8+ hours), don´t trust the "charged" indicator. If you use the charger to charge your batteries, remove the batteries right away, since it discharges them when not plugged. If you repeat this process a few times and always make sure to charge your batteries for as long as possible when you can (at home or at night at hotel), don´t leave them in the charger and don´t leave them for longer periods with low charge (under 75%), you should be fine.

@Damien Stanworth I had the problem of battery dying fast only once. I just left it on the charger for a much longer period of time even though the indicator showed that it was charged (just as @Freeman mentioned).

Regarding your video clips, I have the same problem. 9 out of 10 times (using Car mode), I will be able to record about 1:30, 2:20, or if i'm lucky, I will be able to record up to 6 minutes. I have tried changing the setting from 3, 5, and 20 minutes. One thing is certain, it will record for that short period of time and the indicator will go blue, I wake the OSD to see a steady red dot on screen. I have to press the record button to remove the red dot on screen and then press the record button again to resume recording. On the second time of recording, it will be perfectly fine.

In regular record mode (not car mode) the same problem has happened to me the 4 times that I have used it. But like I mentioned, on the second attempt (without turning the camera off) it does not fail and records perfectly fine.

I am on my second unit from Amazon since the first one had a black dot on the screen and alll of my videos. I purchased it through DigitalMedia01. No I am debating to see if I will keep it or return it for the Gitup. Unfortunately, after watching the review, I like the video produced by the Dazzne over the Gitup. Hoping a firware update would solve this problem of short first recording upon turning it on.

The only thing I can think of is to make sure that you do have Motion Activation Switched Off.

November 11, 2015 | Registered CommenterTechmoan

Hi techmoan,

recently Dazzne has released the P2 with wifi, and P2 Plus, are you going to review them, or say something about them?
thanks in advance.

November 12, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterNachoX

@Tony: To be honest, I have never even tried the "car mode", just doesn´t see any benefit. You can set camera to "auto start on power input" in normal mode in normal mode as well, same with loop recording. Plus I don´t really think this camera is a great dashcam.
As for camera dying in normal mode a few times, as I have said, it has only happened to me when the batteries weren´t properly charged. Most of the times when I have left the batteries in a disconnected charger, since charges discharges the batteries when disconnected. If you avoid this, you should be just fine (unless your camera is defective ofc.)

November 12, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterFreeman

@Freeman just figured I share my experience. I recently booted up in normal mode on a fully charged battery and sure enough, first recording, I was only able to record 2:30. after seeing a steady red dot, I have to press the record button to take it out of "record" mode. I then have to press the record again and on the second attempt, I could record for 20+ minutes before I stopped it.

You are right though, "normal mode" can loop and essentially do the same as "car mode". I will give that a shot and see if I still freeze up on the first record.

November 12, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterTony

@Tony: My camera doesn´t behave in that way, yours might be defective.

November 12, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterFreeman

@Freeman Glad you are not having that problem, I wish I was that lucky... This is my second unit and I had the same problem with the first. Such disappointment right now.

November 12, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterTony

@Tony: That is really strange, two in a row. I wonder if it could be connected to some specific action you do, I mean, in electronics, there are always so many variables it is crazy. Often, the issues are caused by things we would never suspect.

November 12, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterFreeman

I'd look at the commonalities between each failure - perhaps the same memory card was used in both cameras and is too slow to save the files properly. Unless your card comes from Amazon Direct (not a marketplace reseller) or a recognised High Street Chain (with a reputation to protect)...i'd consider this as the most likely point of failure.

November 12, 2015 | Registered CommenterTechmoan

I notice that Banggood now offers what they call the Dazzne P2 Plus, supposedly with image stabilization. Is this a new version of the P2 and can you advise whether the image stabilizaton really works well I notice also it is $99 compared to the earlier P2.

November 26, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterLarry

I've just got P2 WIFI model. Audio is very low, sound is next to zero volume. Anyone have the same problem? Even after firmware update, same thing.

November 27, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterDragan

Thanks to @freeman and @tony for the replies regarding my issue. I had pretty much given up on the camera, although the seller is sending me 2 more batteries.
Ive put the first 2 batteries on charge and will leave them for a longer period. If that works ill be pleased.
I noticed that the GoPro Hero 3+ Silver is available at a tempting price of £150 at Argos.

November 29, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterDamien Stanworth

Hey everyone, I just bought a Dazzne P3 and I'm very surprised by the poor quality of the video recordings. I keep getting a snow-like effect on my videos and white rays in the sky or light sources I tried to record.

I'm very disappointed so far, I've installed the lastest update of the firmware and still nothing. The tech support told me to change my settings but nothing made it better. I've tried to go back to the original settings and still nothing. I also don't have the FOV option in the shooting setup even after I've updated the firmware.

You seem to know a lot on the Dazzne P3 and your review helped me chose between a GoPro and a P3. Did you have the same problem? Should I send the camera back?
Thank you for your answer

December 21, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterAmadeus

okay, probably a stupid question here, but are the Dazzne rotating mounts compatible with GoPro?

January 15, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterJeff The White Guy

I bought my son the Dazzne P2 Plus for his birthday.
Had I factored in the fact that the P3 comes with an extra battery and an external charger, I might have justified the additional cost for the higher resolution model.

My question: Does the P2 Plus and the P3 take the same battery?
I would like to buy him an extra battery and an external charger.

I'm looking for a budget action cam to wear on my helmet during ice hockey training and to have on the sidelines whilst playing games. I'm curious as to how the p2 would fair under the lights inside and in the low temperature?

January 31, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterFulford

I recently bougth a Dazzne p2 camera, however windows 10 does not recognize the camera (does not appear any "removable disk" or "mass storage" etc)... Is there a solution for this ? anyone with a similar issue ?

I tried Dazzne support, but no answers until now....

Oh, and Techmoan, thanks for the great reviews !

Guaranteed solution - Put the MicroSD card into a USB reader and plug this in to your computer
Possible solution - Plug the camera into a USB Hub.

February 18, 2016 | Registered CommenterTechmoan

Thanks for your reply and sugestions. I think I´ll use the USB reader.
This is a basic camera, but I really like the image quality, so I´m going to give it a try.

Hello Mr Techmoan
Thanks for another entertaining review. Sadly I find the P2 I received last week less amusing. Even on a fully charged battery it may go from reading 100% to 25% power within a minute then shut down. Consequently I think I will only use it in the car but it is incapable of rendering video sufficient to clearly read car number plates on the move. I find my Mobius and SJCAM more satisfactory.
Hoping you'll be back with more reviews soon.

March 3, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterskiz

You can get spare batteries and an external charger.
It would be one way to find out If you got a bad battery.

March 3, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMark (42) Kanzler

I have Problems with my Dazzne P2, i want to use the external microphone! I got the original adapter cable. But it dosent works!!
Any Suggestions!?

July 6, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterRoland

I never got the mic-in to work on this camera or the p3 camera. You'll see more about this in the review of that camera...but needless to say, I don't believe it's correctly implemented in this range of cameras. It's one of the reasons why I decided that the Gitup Git2 was my favourite budget cam...the mic-in works fine.

July 6, 2016 | Registered CommenterTechmoan

Are other batteries compatable with the dazzne p2? Like a sjcam battery.
Sorry if someone already asked

May 21, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterNick

Hi Matt and everyone
Struggling to find replacement batteries for the P2 some suggestions are the
P3's 1000mA batteries are the same physical size
I've emailed Dazzne and I'm still waiting for a reply. As above anyone found any compatability between this and other dazzne or
other makes
Loving the cam don't use it as much as I should on the motorbike though!
Made an adaptation to the waterproof case so I can use underwater macro lenses and filters

Unfortunately I gave mine away so I don't know whether they are interchangeable. I've check around and can't see them for sale anywhere. They may even be interchangeable with some other brands, like GoPro, but I can't remember.

June 4, 2017 | Registered CommenterTechmoan

I did get an email from GearBest saying they had no idea when of if they would restock them
such a shame really

June 15, 2017 | Unregistered Commenterjoanne

Hi Tech moan, great introduction... I bought one!
Just one question, (following no response from Dazzne), Charging the unit works fine, but if I use it in 'dash cam' mode, then remove it to use as a helmet cam (cycling in my case), the battery has been virtually dead, affording less than 1 minute recording time. Surely when on charge in the car (which activates video recording automatically ) it should keep the battery topped up too? Any advice I'd be grateful for. Thankyou!
All the best, David
