What SD CARD should I buy?

If you want an SD Card for your camera - these are the ones I use and recommend.

I'd strongly recommend not to buy any SD cards off ebay - I've heard about too many issues with counterfeit cards - often sold on by unwitting resellers. My inbox regularly gets messages from people who bought a £150 camera then cheaped out and bought a £3 memory card on ebay - Then when it doesn't worth they blame the camera! It doesn't make any sense. Good memory is cheaper than it's ever been - see the links above.

A lot of HD cameras will not work properly with cards larger than 32GB (cards over 32GB are usually SDXC rather than the SDHC standard used by 32GB cards. SDXC cards use the ex-FAT system rather than FAT32 - in short they are a different standard). - so don't just buy the biggest card you can afford - read the specs in the manual to see what it accepts.

RECOMMENDED CARDS (for action cams - see dashcams below)

CLASS 10 UHS-1 CARDS (For HD Cameras)

U3 CARD (For 4K cameras)

The SD card in a dashcam is re-written over, more frequently than in other types of cameras. Some manufacturers void their guarantee if an SD card was used in a dashcam. So, no surprise, there are special High Endurance SD cards made just for's some.

VERY IMPORTANT. These links take you to the product, however Amazon have three different ways of selling. There's Amazon Direct - This means that you are only dealing with Amazon themselves, then there's other sellers that use Amazon's facilities - these show as Fulfilled By Amazon and finally there's Market Place sellers that advertise on Amazon, but operate independently.  I strongly recommend that you only use the first...the Amazon Direct - Sold By Amazon option. Even if it appears that you are paying a couple of £/$ more it is more than likely you are comparing the price of a real item against the price of a fake.

To give you an idea of the extent of the fake goods problem. In a 2016 survey by Apple - 90% of the 'Apple' chargers sold through Amazon - using the other the two methods..which includes the "Fulfilled by Amazon" option -  were found to be counterfeit....90%!

The fully-loaded Gitup Git2 Pro Camera - what more do you need?

I've reviewed many action cameras with each new model (usually) improving upon the last. However pretty much every camera I've tested has had an achilles heel, whether it was the lack of a mic input, poor exposure control, or general operational issues, it's often a case of 'close, but no cigar'.

Well I think the Git2 deserves that cigar, because I'm really struggling to find anything that it doesn't do. As far as these kinds of cameras go, it seems to tick the box for every feature you need and then throw in a few more besides.

If you are looking for a matchbox sized camera and the Git2 falls within your budget, I really can't think of anything that should prevent you from buying it. I suppose you might prefer to pay more for a camera with less features but labelled up with a brand name you are more familiar with...and if so then that's your prerogative, however I know which camera I'd buy.

Watch the video below to see the full review.

If you want to buy a Gitup Git2 Pro, I found the best deals are on ebay, so click your country below to see the current price that is available to you.

On the strength of your review, I have purchased and just opened the box of my brand new GitPro2...

I'm having some difficulty though, finding the GitUp App on the Apple Store... can anyone help? Send a link? Come around and install it for me? Ha ha!

A link would be most gratefully received.

Thank you

Just downloaded FN Cam Pro (79p) from the Apple app store.

This app had bee recommended on this forum and on the Gitup Facebook page.

I have also got the free FinalCam app which Gitup state on their website.

I will try them when I get the camera and until Gitup produce their own App.

Hope this helps

I currently have a an SJ5000wifi but I am only getting about 35 minutes recording (1080p 30fps) despite SJCam stating it supposed to last 90 minutes! I know you have stated you got 100+ minutes from the Git2 but is this consistent? Have you used it since and does the battery still last as long?

Great review by the way - very useful.

October 22, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterCraig Jasper

I have the git2 as well. Used to film in 1080p with 60fps and got about 45 minutes of footage. Switched to 1080p with 30fps and get about 90 minutes of footage. This is with gyro stabilization on.
Have not played with other settings.
Reason to switch from 60 to 30fps was more battery time (have no need for slo-mo footage at the moment). Still need to learn how to edit and Make a watchable film

Thank you very much for this review. I have just spent the afternoon reading and watching a bunch of reviews of the action cams, I wanted to get my brother one, and your videos and reviews have really helped.

Would this camera be your 2017 recommendation for best helmet action camera?

I'm looking for a low to zero image distortion camera with image stabilization that mounts nicely to a help.

What would your top (3) three be?

February 14, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterChristian

@christian, for no distortion camera, we suggest you try the Git2P 90 degree lens version.

Thank you. I’ve narrowed it down to the Sony AS100V and the GitUp Git2P. I’m not able to mount on the side because of my helmet design. There is no flat area that will fit a sticky mount. Do you know of any kind of mount that I could attach between the helmet padding and the helmet. The sena camera has a similar mounting system but I believe that camera is rated very poorly. If could please recommend an alternate mount to sticky padding that would be awesome.

Maybe you can try the GP92 360 Helmet Mount.

I'm not looking for a stick on mount I'm trying locate a clip on mount so I could mount this specific camera.

Here's an example.

What is the difference between the GIT1 and the GIT2?

@Danny, there is a professional review for comparison between Git1 and Git2.

Hi Techmoan,

I've noticed with all of your reviews, you've left off the Muvi brand. When I first started researching for dash cams, this company came up, though not in your reviews. I first thought it was due to not being available in GB (vs. USA which is where I live) but that's not true. I know that buying a billion pieces of tech is not a cheap endeavor (and that you do this, we are are ever grateful for), but do you think you will do a review? All the videos I've seen have been.... lacking.... in the information they give about the products.

I wound up buying the K-Series camera since a store in the USA had one at a very affordable price for me, and though I like it, I feel like the images do not come out as nice as some of the youtube videos I've seen. I'd like to know your thoughts since you have seen MANY different types of action cameras & dash cameras and can come at this with a professional eye.

Thanks for any feedback and keep up the videos!

Gitup Git2 has 'Gitten' better with some great firmware updates via the gitup website. I THANK YOU for putting this camera on my radar when you first introduced it. I used your links to order both this and the SJcam (little square model?). Both cams were great with superior image and gyro, but the Git2 is mostly used 1st and SJ as a backup. Please continue informing and entertaining.

Enjoy your reviews, comments etc. Is there an action camera that has a lens in the 90 - 100 FOV? I don't mean zoom altho that would be nice. I don't like the barrel effect of the wide fov, and for my purposes i'd prefer a shallow fov.
I primarily use my cameras for rc model airplanes and I don't like looking at dots that are not recognizable.

Anything come to mind

GitUp Git2P with 90° FOV and Panasonic Sensor (hence the P in the name):

Thanks for the review. Possible useful info.
Git 2 file name is not standard 8.3 protocol.( ********.mp4) So can not be read by ipads using a card reader or by plugging in via usb. Transfer is a real faf particulary in remote locations.. If there is a solution please could someone post it.

Does the Git2 allow to manually control the gain of the usb microphone? I'm thinking of replacing one of my mobius cam with this model. Sometimes I record videos using the mobius with a lavalier mic connected to a zoom h1 in my pocket, but it would be very handy to use the lav mic directly on the action cam.

July 26, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterNomed

There's no gain control.

July 26, 2017 | Registered CommenterTechmoan

@Nomed, Novatek use the gain value to set the audio level. In Git2 Firmware, you can adjust the record audio level.

Is there a good action cam, like the Git 2 - compatible with GoPro accessories - that has the main features of a dashcam - auto start/stop and looping video? Thanks

August 12, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterCraig

Stupid me hadn't read/viewed your review. I was just looking for somewhere to ask a question.
I have since read a number of your reviews and have bought the Git2 (to supplement my GoPros on my motorcycle); the Sena Prism for the helmet and the A119 for my car.
The Git2 only arrived today but I've tested out both the Sena Prism and the A119 and am very happy with both.
Thank you for your excellent and entertaining reviews! :-)

Hi, Love your reviews and sense of humour...

Just wondering if you were intending to review the gitup G3 and F1 cameras any time soon.

Also, as a suggestion, I notice there are a number of clip on (external) lens kits for smart phones - macro and tele. Might be something of interest for you

Hi, Is there a more recently released action camera with the same level of digital image stabilization as the Git2. I've searched high and low and looking at 4k cameras on the market (firefly 8, AN7000, SJ7 Star) none seem to handle bumps and action shots as smoothly as the Git2. In theory i'd be looking for a action camera with the newest chip sets and sensors but with the same quality of stabilization as the older Git2 device.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

January 19, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterAndy

Hi Techmoan,
Great review as always! I have been following your youtube channel and your review blogs like some Harry Potter fan and i must admit, I am glued!

I also have a request though. Can you by any chance review the Yi Lite action camera too? To me, it looks like a tough competitor in the 1080p video shooting mode space. However, there doesn't seem to be any in-depth reviews on it.

Looking forward with excitement to your review of this one, if you will. Thanks!
