What SD CARD should I buy?

If you want an SD Card for your camera - these are the ones I use and recommend.

I'd strongly recommend not to buy any SD cards off ebay - I've heard about too many issues with counterfeit cards - often sold on by unwitting resellers. My inbox regularly gets messages from people who bought a £150 camera then cheaped out and bought a £3 memory card on ebay - Then when it doesn't worth they blame the camera! It doesn't make any sense. Good memory is cheaper than it's ever been - see the links above.

A lot of HD cameras will not work properly with cards larger than 32GB (cards over 32GB are usually SDXC rather than the SDHC standard used by 32GB cards. SDXC cards use the ex-FAT system rather than FAT32 - in short they are a different standard). - so don't just buy the biggest card you can afford - read the specs in the manual to see what it accepts.

RECOMMENDED CARDS (for action cams - see dashcams below)

CLASS 10 UHS-1 CARDS (For HD Cameras)

U3 CARD (For 4K cameras)

The SD card in a dashcam is re-written over, more frequently than in other types of cameras. Some manufacturers void their guarantee if an SD card was used in a dashcam. So, no surprise, there are special High Endurance SD cards made just for's some.

VERY IMPORTANT. These links take you to the product, however Amazon have three different ways of selling. There's Amazon Direct - This means that you are only dealing with Amazon themselves, then there's other sellers that use Amazon's facilities - these show as Fulfilled By Amazon and finally there's Market Place sellers that advertise on Amazon, but operate independently.  I strongly recommend that you only use the first...the Amazon Direct - Sold By Amazon option. Even if it appears that you are paying a couple of £/$ more it is more than likely you are comparing the price of a real item against the price of a fake.

To give you an idea of the extent of the fake goods problem. In a 2016 survey by Apple - 90% of the 'Apple' chargers sold through Amazon - using the other the two methods..which includes the "Fulfilled by Amazon" option -  were found to be counterfeit....90%!

Dashcam Review: Viofo A119 - Simple Capable Capacitor Camera

The A119 does everything that many people need a dashcam to do. It records high quality video at resolutions including 1440p30 and 1080p60. It has great low light performance, uses a capacitor rather than a battery (more suited for hot countries) GPS is optional and the camera can be neatly mounted at the top of a windscreen.

You can download sample clips here - Do not try to stream them, there is no point as the streamed re-encoded videos look awful....these are just for downloading and playing locally on a computer.

I'm glad I got the GPS and CPL filter.
While I have the Coordinates and Speed feature turned off on the GPS it still serves 2 functions.
It keeps the correct time from the satellite and allows for proper placement of the lens and filter from the windshield.
The filter also reduces the glare from the dash reflecting inside the windshield.

I've had an A119 with gps since February, and am impressed with the clarity and its night performance. The gps is useful, as it stamps the exact location and time on the video file. However, in July, during a 2-month 4wd road trip, it started giving trouble, resetting itself every 30 seconds and saving an unreadable file. Unplugging the unit from the gps would reset it, and it would work ok again for a while, but eventually after a couple of weeks, it just kept resetting itself, rarely starting up properly. I bought this one from Zapals, but they were unhelpful as they said it was out of warranty (6 months). Of course I was unable to make a claim then, being on the road, but I offered them date-stamped corrupt files to show it had failed under warranty, but they stood firm. They wouldn't provide me with contact details for Viofo, so I guess this unit goes in the bin. I have a second unit in my other car - I just hope it lasts a bit longer than this one.

Here is a link to Viofo Ltd and A119 Support.

Do you have an EVA Foam Pad between the camera and the gps to prevent vibration?
Also, is the contacts between the camera and gps clean and working?

Hi Ian, I have had a similar problem that some files seem to be missing, I have found that if I open a new folder on the PC/Laptop then open the files on the sd card, by inserting the card into the PC/laptop useing an adapter, then select all files on the card then drag them, all together, to the folder you first created, the transfer could be slow. I have found that all the files will be in the folder and in the correct order.

Hi Mat,I have several 119 &119s cams, one i use as a security cam, very effective and always in color, one I bought with a CPL filter, i did not think it was any use as it did not make any change to the reflection off the IP. A few days ago i was looking around u tube and came across a site by P C HOBBYIST who has a lot of videos on the 119, One of them shows how to check your CPL filter and how to correct it. I checked mine and found that it was out of orientation, I adjusted it according to the instructions in the video, what a difference it made, now the IP reflection is almost gone. Check it out.

I’ve had my A119S with GPS & CPL for just over a month now.
It stays in place 24/7 except if it has to be cleaned.
I alternate the micro sd card at least once a month.
The only other function is change my Time Zone Sun. Nov. 5th.
I’m in Time Zone -4 Daylight Saving Time.
On Sun. Nov. 5th I will reset the Time Zone to -5 for Eastern Standard Time.
I’m very satisfied with all aspects of this unit.

The Viofo A119 v2 definitely does the job, as I expected it. According to Car Cam Central is is the best value dash camera on the market today.

Purchased from 5 star seller in Aliexpress:

Congratulations, great to hear you are happy with your Viofo A119 V2 and your supplier.

I’ve had my A119S V2 c/w GPS & CPL over 5 weeks and couldn’t be happier.
I’m very pleased with my Seller on
I used Seller 2013tranhowe123 in Shenzen China, item #222606396856.
I live in Canada and they provided me with excellent product and service.

I was particularly interested with Viofo’s use of the 6 element glass lens.
I noticed Apple also used the same type of 6 element lens in their design in 2 their new Apple iPad Pro.
It must be a proven lens system.
I owe my initial interest to the Viofo dash cam to Techmoan and after researching settled on the A119S.
I think Viofo is an excellent company making a very good product.
