What SD CARD should I buy?

If you want an SD Card for your camera - these are the ones I use and recommend.

I'd strongly recommend not to buy any SD cards off ebay - I've heard about too many issues with counterfeit cards - often sold on by unwitting resellers. My inbox regularly gets messages from people who bought a £150 camera then cheaped out and bought a £3 memory card on ebay - Then when it doesn't worth they blame the camera! It doesn't make any sense. Good memory is cheaper than it's ever been - see the links above.

A lot of HD cameras will not work properly with cards larger than 32GB (cards over 32GB are usually SDXC rather than the SDHC standard used by 32GB cards. SDXC cards use the ex-FAT system rather than FAT32 - in short they are a different standard). - so don't just buy the biggest card you can afford - read the specs in the manual to see what it accepts.

RECOMMENDED CARDS (for action cams - see dashcams below)

CLASS 10 UHS-1 CARDS (For HD Cameras)

U3 CARD (For 4K cameras)

The SD card in a dashcam is re-written over, more frequently than in other types of cameras. Some manufacturers void their guarantee if an SD card was used in a dashcam. So, no surprise, there are special High Endurance SD cards made just for's some.

VERY IMPORTANT. These links take you to the product, however Amazon have three different ways of selling. There's Amazon Direct - This means that you are only dealing with Amazon themselves, then there's other sellers that use Amazon's facilities - these show as Fulfilled By Amazon and finally there's Market Place sellers that advertise on Amazon, but operate independently.  I strongly recommend that you only use the first...the Amazon Direct - Sold By Amazon option. Even if it appears that you are paying a couple of £/$ more it is more than likely you are comparing the price of a real item against the price of a fake.

To give you an idea of the extent of the fake goods problem. In a 2016 survey by Apple - 90% of the 'Apple' chargers sold through Amazon - using the other the two methods..which includes the "Fulfilled by Amazon" option -  were found to be counterfeit....90%!

Yi Dash-Cam Review

Over the last year, Xiaoyi's Yi action camera has turned out to be a very popular model due to its keen price and excellent image quality. So when the company announced their first dashcam, I instantly put in my order. That was back on New Year's day...there have been some delays with shipping, but it finally arrived a couple of weeks ago and I can demonstrate it to you now.

In the video below you can find out whether the Xiaoyi Car Camera can live up to the familiy name.

If you click your country below you can find the sellers of this camera on ebay. You may need to activate International Search in the left hand panel.

UPDATE: Now available with English language menus.

There is now a black model that is more discreet, as well as multiple menu language options.

I hope Techmoan won't mind but I wanted to share with you an easy to follow written and video set of instructions on changing the f/w of the Chinese version of the dashcam to the US (English) version. I know that a lot of folks have tried, and have had difficulties. This should help:

Ema, use the buttons on the camera to turn ON wifi, same happened to me yesterday

Do you think the new Xiaomi Yi 2 Action Camm 4k is worth looking at as a dashcam? It includes a loop recording mode for that reason. I just wondered if a 4k cam would give a better quality 1080p than one that maxes out at 1080?

if i buy this today june 2016 has it got english language on menu and will it come with suction cup or other

June 1, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterAnnaX

Yes, but it's preferred to buy from Amazon or GeekBuying, which is the original official reseller of Yi's cameras. At the moment I would not trust that GearBest, Banggood or others that they are not selling chinese version of the camera with english firmware as the international version.

I bought it from and it came with English menu and 3M sticking hing, no suction cup

I ordered one of these from Amazon UK. What arrived today was a Chinese version of this dashcam and not the International version as I had hoped. There was no screen mount.

Andy: Since the order was missing some parts, can you not return it for a full refund and wait until you find a listing that specifies that it is the "International Edition" Good luck.

June 16, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterGeoff S

Ahmad: That's the way it is listed on the Geekbuying site. You got what you ordered. Suction cup mounts are available online if you really need one.

June 16, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterGeoff S

Geoff, I am happy with my order. I wasn't complaining.
