What SD CARD should I buy?

If you want an SD Card for your camera - these are the ones I use and recommend.

I'd strongly recommend not to buy any SD cards off ebay - I've heard about too many issues with counterfeit cards - often sold on by unwitting resellers. My inbox regularly gets messages from people who bought a £150 camera then cheaped out and bought a £3 memory card on ebay - Then when it doesn't worth they blame the camera! It doesn't make any sense. Good memory is cheaper than it's ever been - see the links above.

A lot of HD cameras will not work properly with cards larger than 32GB (cards over 32GB are usually SDXC rather than the SDHC standard used by 32GB cards. SDXC cards use the ex-FAT system rather than FAT32 - in short they are a different standard). - so don't just buy the biggest card you can afford - read the specs in the manual to see what it accepts.

UK & US LINKS & PRICES BELOW

RECOMMENDED CARDS (for action cams - see dashcams below)

CLASS 10 UHS-1 CARDS (For HD Cameras)

U3 CARD (For 4K cameras)

SPECIAL DASHCAM CARDS

The SD card in a dashcam is re-written over, more frequently than in other types of cameras. Some manufacturers void their guarantee if an SD card was used in a dashcam. So, no surprise, there are special High Endurance SD cards made just for dashcams...here's some.

VERY IMPORTANT. These links take you to the product, however Amazon have three different ways of selling. There's Amazon Direct - This means that you are only dealing with Amazon themselves, then there's other sellers that use Amazon's facilities - these show as Fulfilled By Amazon and finally there's Market Place sellers that advertise on Amazon, but operate independently.  I strongly recommend that you only use the first...the Amazon Direct - Sold By Amazon option. Even if it appears that you are paying a couple of £/$ more it is more than likely you are comparing the price of a real item against the price of a fake.

To give you an idea of the extent of the fake goods problem. In a 2016 survey by Apple - 90% of the 'Apple' chargers sold through Amazon - using the other the two methods..which includes the "Fulfilled by Amazon" option -  were found to be counterfeit....90%!

Dashcam Review: DDPai M6+ is the best mini cam I've used

In the video below you'll see a full Review of the best Mini Dashcam I've used. I've been using this in my car for six weeks and I can't fault the performance. I'm so happy with it that I have plans to buy a couple more when I can get the money together. Then I can replace the camera in my other car as well as try the dual camera functionality in my roadster.

The highlights of this camera for me are the magnetic mount, the video quality and the time-lapse parking mode. Other notable features include WiFi, GPS and a wireless remote.

I bought mine from the ebay store linked below: (Click your country to see the current price).

UK   US   AU   DE   AT   BE   CA   CH   ES   IE   IT   NL

I’ve purchased from this store plenty of times over the years without any problems. Delivery usually takes approx 10-14 days to the UK.

I cannot report on the long term reliablity of a product that has only been on the market a few weeks...but I do hope it carries on working for a long time, as I really like this one.

Downloadable sample clips here: http://pc.cd/WSdctalK - Please don't be that guy who always tries streaming the videos and then gets back to me to say that they look terrible when streamed. These are provided for Downloading - they look like they were recorded with a potato if streamed over pcloud.

My 'BEGINNERS GUIDE to Dashcams' can be seen here: https://youtu.be/HQ0Tm9FFpKM

UPDATE - I must stress that this is not a basic simple camera suitable for beginners - it has a lot of features and you need to have a bit of experience with apps, smartphones and previous dashcams before you buy this camera.  If you are looking for your first car camera...this is not suitable. I have a list of recommended dashcams and something like the Transcend Drivepro 200 is a good place to start. Big clear screen, minimal options and simple features, no WiFi or reliance on smartphone apps which can lead to potential compatibility issues with specific phones.

UPDATE 2 - OCTOBER 2016

I was getting a lot of questions about this camera - if you read through the comments below you'll see that the same questions keep popping up - so to help anyone out who is having issues with the smartphone features of this camera - please watch the video below - you'll also see a demonstration of the CPL filter in use. I recommend you watch this one on Youtube itself (click the youtube logo at the bottom of the video) and then you can skip to the appropriate section you need.

Downloaded and reinstalled the Android App, using firmware version 3.5.2.3. I get notice that a new firmware is available and when I try to get it, the App never gets past "uploading to camera". Also, since getting 3.5.2.3, I've noticed my camera has powered off on it's own 3 times already. Since it's behind the rear view mirror, I can't see that the power light is off. Need to disconnect/reconnect power cord for it to turn on again. I have a 2nd camera that still using v 3.5.0.9 without issue. Would like to downgrade camera back to that version but DDpai hasn't been much help with that. I see there's a link to version 3.3.1.6, maybe try that.

I found the same problem a few times
take the mounting of your car along with the camera and plug it into your computer with the USB to give it power in your house
then with on your phone, in settings to WI FI making sure it is connected ddpaI then open up the app on your phone and press TRY AGAIN and it should finish the download to the camera in a few minutes when it is done just put it back in the car and thats it
Hope that helps

I'm having the same problem since the last firmware upgrade. Keeps restarting and then after the GPS lock notification it now says something else in Chinese and then restarts again. I'm assuming the upgrade caused some corruption. I'll try the suggestions tonight and a reset as well that may help. Great camera and great website by the way ☺️

Thanks for the suggestion Rae. unfortunately it didn't work for me. I asked DDpai if they could send me version 3.5.0.9 which I have on my 2nd camera but no luck. The 3.5.0.9 version works fine. I have a file for version 3.3.1.6 I guess I can try lading that one.

I left both my front and rear mini2 cameras on last night. this morning the rear (v3.5.0.9) was in parking mode, the front (v3.5.2.3) was powered off. They both run off the same power connection. DDpai sent me a link to earlier firmware versions so i'm reinstalling v3.5.0.9 on the front camera. It would be a nice feature if you turn off parking mode that the camera power down after 5 mins but that's not whats happening. Parking mode is on. it's even powered down while i was driving. not much use at that point. Plus still not able to get the upgrade function working properly with the new app (android).

Have to say, I really wanted one (well, a couple) of these after Mat's review. However, after seeing all the trouble you all are having with them, I'm considerably less enthused. I can't afford to have the camera be non-functional. I live in Minnesota and these people simply Do. Not. Know. how to drive.

They'll match your speed when you try to pass them. If you then get back in behind them, they'll slow down to a speed even slower than they were traveling before. And if you try to pass them again, they'll speed back up. If you succeed in passing them, they'll honk at you or flash their high beams at you. And they'll do that if they're in the oncoming lane and you've got all kinds of room to safely change back into your own lane.

If you're trying to merge onto the highway, they refuse to change lanes to give you room to merge on. And they'll often speed up to cut you off while you're trying to merge.

While many Americans are bad at using traffic circles, Minnesotans are particularly bad at it. If you merge into the traffic circle with plenty of room between them and you, they'll still honk at you for "cutting them off". I had one woman sideswipe me because she failed to check her blindspot or even put her signal on when she wanted to change lanes. And then she claimed that I rear-ended her!

My wife had a woman try to file a police report claiming that the woman watched my wife pull into the parking space next to her and sideswipe her car, knocking her driver's side mirror off. My wife had the cop review the footage right there on the spot, disproving the woman's claims and causing the cop to issue the woman a ticket for filing a false report.

You can't trust these f*****rs and I can't afford to have non-functional cameras.

C. Smith, people suck everywhere, not just MN, which is why I got a front and rear mini2. Once I get my firmware set back to 3.5.0.9 I'm just gonna leave it there and not upgrade. It was working fine with that version.

October 27, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterChris G

do you expect more from a Trump supporter?

The images and views are good but it sounds like you need multiple hero 4s and video glasses. I'd also put a Ion camper on my humane euthanasia to dispose of idiots - mine is a mp5

October 27, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterPeter

SUCCESS!!! finally got my mini2 camera back to version 3.5.0.9. Already tested it and it's working. When in time lapse parking mode the flashing orange light turns to flashing blue like it should. It had stopped doing that with the new firmware. Hopefully it won't self power down anymore now. I'll be bypassing all firmware updates for the foreseeable future.

October 27, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterChris G

since my update i havnt got the time lapse feature on my app its disapeared.also my card is filling up in one day and after formatting it starts 20 per cent full.it used to take at least 4 days to fill the card 64 gig .it doesnt loop just says its full and delete files

October 28, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterpaul

Paul. they removed the time lapse mode butto from the app, but parking mode is time lapse mode. i checked my files and it was stil going into time lapse. Thats a function of the firmware update.

October 28, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterChris G

I found the time lapse didn't work well with update. reverted to older firmware and timelapse kicks in 15 minutes after stopping.
Just fitted the hard wire kit (and a 1A fuse as i'm not too trusting of Chinese built in safety). Works well.

I wish they'd put an audible warning when coming out of park mode just to add confidence.

Now I need a rear facing one for a convertible - any suggestions?

October 28, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterPeter

thanks chris.any idea why when i formated card earlier it was full in an hour again and is not looping

October 28, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterpaul

hi paul, not sure why it isn't looping. when i formatted my card it seemed like it filled up right away too, but the most current video is on the card. I haven't gotten any message that the card if full. I did go back to v 3.5.0.9 though. maybe that is something to do with the new firmware. although for the time that i was using the new firmware I never got a "full card" message.

October 28, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterChris G

owhen i first got cam it lasted 4 to 5 days before full.but an hour is bad .i cant be bothered formating it hourly.mine says delete some files when it gets full.its a strange carry on with this app at first my gps wasnt working so i welcomed the new firmware it put one problem right but made more problems elswhere..how did you get hold of the firmware you used

October 28, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterpaul

DDpai sent me a link to download previous firmware versions. I choose the 3.5.0.9 for my mini2 since I had that version on my other mini2 and it was working fine. Here's the link they sent me. I virus scanned the rar file before opening and it was clean for me. http://pan.baidu.com/share/home?uk=2202327771#category/type=0

October 28, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterChris G

i just unzip the file rar file, then copy the "update" folder to the root of my SD card. no need to format the card first. Then power up the camera. The camera light should come on but you should not get the hello message. Once the firmware updates, the power light will go off, then come on again...then you will hear the hello message and you're firmware should be updated.

October 28, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterChris G

thanks chris much appreciated.does you camera overwrite as it should when full?i think also parking mode should kick in a bit quicker because someone could hit you in that time.im wondering if i realy need parking mode on anyway as it is hardwired and running all the time

October 28, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterpaul

if it's hard wired it will run all the time. Parking mode will drain less power. I believe any shock to the car (or maybe motion/sound too) will take the camera out of park mode and start recording video again. My parking mode kicks in sooner than 15 mins, seems more like 5 mins of non-movement. My SD card seems to be overwriting files just fine.I run both my cams (front/rear) off on off the same charger. My ford is power-on all the time. When I do want the cams off I just unplug the charger. I also use industrial Velcro (plastic on both pieces, no cloth) on the cams to mount them. This way I cam remove them if I want.

October 28, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterChris G

are you using the m6 plus thats the one i have.i never realy understoon the real differance between parking mode and timelapse coz you only have normal and timelapse in folder

October 28, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterpaul

I'm using the mini2. same chip set as M+6 but no gps and different form factor, also no lithium battery, uses capacitor. I preferred the form factor of the mini2 to the M+6 and GPS wasn't something I needed. Parking mode IS time lapse mode...no difference which is why they remove the switch for time lapse from the new firmware. In old version needed both parking mode and time lapse mode on...new version just need parking mode on.

October 28, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterChris G

thanks for your help chris i might have to look for firmware for m6 plus

October 28, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterpaul

you're welcome. i believe it's the same firmware for both...but there are one's labeled M6plus on that site.

October 28, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterChris G

has anyone noticed if theres an improvment after the new updates like the change to memory card storage and the new battery saver in the app were you can set it to turn off etc.

November 1, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterpaul

Been trying to resolve the issue with my M6+ not loop recording and have gotten nowhere. This is my 2nd purchase based on others reviews and I have learned to read the hell out of reviews and forums. Aggravated beyond words. Ddpai is useless. Multiple card purchases did not fix it. Can't update firmware in app, its garbage plus from what I see on here it just screws up the camera worse. If I could just get it to loop Id be happy. Tired of pissing away money.

November 2, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterBob

Bob, i'd suggested uploading an earlier firmware version. That's what I did with my mini2 and it works fine now. I have no intention of upgrading the firmware again now that my cams work fine. Here's a copy of what they sent me:

"please check all our camera versions here, http://pan.baidu.com/share/home?uk=2202327771#category/type=0

For uploading, you download the firmware, decompress it then come to the file like update, and you need to copy the whole update file into the root of SD card, then insert SD card to camera to update, and please make sure to keep power on when uploading, hope it;s clear now."

November 2, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterChris G

Iv had my m6 for about 2 months and it asnt looped since i got it with any firmware.my 64 gig card was filling up in an hour now it seems to stick at 77 per cent space used.dunno how its working at.moment on the update

The CCCP codec pack is very good and normally will allow playback from many sources coupled with VLC.

Hi Paul. Check that you haven't turned on the "flip image" button on the app.
