What SD CARD should I buy?

If you want an SD Card for your camera - these are the ones I use and recommend.

I'd strongly recommend not to buy any SD cards off ebay - I've heard about too many issues with counterfeit cards - often sold on by unwitting resellers. My inbox regularly gets messages from people who bought a £150 camera then cheaped out and bought a £3 memory card on ebay - Then when it doesn't worth they blame the camera! It doesn't make any sense. Good memory is cheaper than it's ever been - see the links above.

A lot of HD cameras will not work properly with cards larger than 32GB (cards over 32GB are usually SDXC rather than the SDHC standard used by 32GB cards. SDXC cards use the ex-FAT system rather than FAT32 - in short they are a different standard). - so don't just buy the biggest card you can afford - read the specs in the manual to see what it accepts.

RECOMMENDED CARDS (for action cams - see dashcams below)

CLASS 10 UHS-1 CARDS (For HD Cameras)

U3 CARD (For 4K cameras)

The SD card in a dashcam is re-written over, more frequently than in other types of cameras. Some manufacturers void their guarantee if an SD card was used in a dashcam. So, no surprise, there are special High Endurance SD cards made just for's some.

VERY IMPORTANT. These links take you to the product, however Amazon have three different ways of selling. There's Amazon Direct - This means that you are only dealing with Amazon themselves, then there's other sellers that use Amazon's facilities - these show as Fulfilled By Amazon and finally there's Market Place sellers that advertise on Amazon, but operate independently.  I strongly recommend that you only use the first...the Amazon Direct - Sold By Amazon option. Even if it appears that you are paying a couple of £/$ more it is more than likely you are comparing the price of a real item against the price of a fake.

To give you an idea of the extent of the fake goods problem. In a 2016 survey by Apple - 90% of the 'Apple' chargers sold through Amazon - using the other the two methods..which includes the "Fulfilled by Amazon" option -  were found to be counterfeit....90%!

Dashcam Review: DDPai M6+ is the best mini cam I've used

In the video below you'll see a full Review of the best Mini Dashcam I've used. I've been using this in my car for six weeks and I can't fault the performance. I'm so happy with it that I have plans to buy a couple more when I can get the money together. Then I can replace the camera in my other car as well as try the dual camera functionality in my roadster.

The highlights of this camera for me are the magnetic mount, the video quality and the time-lapse parking mode. Other notable features include WiFi, GPS and a wireless remote.

I bought mine from the ebay store linked below: (Click your country to see the current price).

UK   US   AU   DE   AT   BE   CA   CH   ES   IE   IT   NL

I’ve purchased from this store plenty of times over the years without any problems. Delivery usually takes approx 10-14 days to the UK.

I cannot report on the long term reliablity of a product that has only been on the market a few weeks...but I do hope it carries on working for a long time, as I really like this one.

Downloadable sample clips here: - Please don't be that guy who always tries streaming the videos and then gets back to me to say that they look terrible when streamed. These are provided for Downloading - they look like they were recorded with a potato if streamed over pcloud.

My 'BEGINNERS GUIDE to Dashcams' can be seen here:

UPDATE - I must stress that this is not a basic simple camera suitable for beginners - it has a lot of features and you need to have a bit of experience with apps, smartphones and previous dashcams before you buy this camera.  If you are looking for your first car camera...this is not suitable. I have a list of recommended dashcams and something like the Transcend Drivepro 200 is a good place to start. Big clear screen, minimal options and simple features, no WiFi or reliance on smartphone apps which can lead to potential compatibility issues with specific phones.

I was getting a lot of questions about this camera - if you read through the comments below you'll see that the same questions keep popping up - so to help anyone out who is having issues with the smartphone features of this camera - please watch the video below - you'll also see a demonstration of the CPL filter in use. I recommend you watch this one on Youtube itself (click the youtube logo at the bottom of the video) and then you can skip to the appropriate section you need.

@ Albert

I check for firmware updates fairly regularly.
I believe my camera shipped with v3.3.0.18.
I updated the firmware on 07-14-2016 to v3.3.0.31.
The advertised firmware before and after the update was v3.3.0.31.
The update file was e-dog.bin-v1.0.0.8 but that was the same file downloaded on 07-14-2016 as well.
I take before and after screenshots of the app and firmware versions just to see what changes.
I also took screenshots of the firmware download to see what might change.
I think the initial update to 31 is the only full firmware update I've ever had.

Thank you very much for the positive help with the queries that have been raised. As far as using the camera in the house, whenever someone has asked me a question, I've popped out to the car and slid the whole mount off, then I can plug it into a USB in the house and play about with the settings.
I have also put the CPL filter on mine and it seems to work...I don't know if anyone is interested in a very short video demonstration.

I have asked my contact* at DDPai about how two cameras can be connected together - here is their reply.

"Dear Mat,

M6 Plus or M6 Plus 4G is able to connect with any one of M series and mini series dashcam via WiFi networking.

Step: 1) Boot up two cameras as normal; 2)Press two remote buttons 6 times in 2 seconds synchronously to connect them together; 3) A voice prompt 'WiFi Networking Succuss' come out in about 30 seconds; 4) Connect M6 Plus camera to APP as usual; 5) Two images (front and rear, which can be switched by touching the screen) will be presented on your mobile phone screen."

- When I get a spare few hours - I'll try and test this out - as I do have the M6 and M6+ and a remote for both - the difficulty will be finding my M6 (and the remote) as I slinged it in a box somewhere after I bought the M6+.

*The person at DDPai contacted me after I made the video. I paid full price for this camera.

@Albert - Latest firmware - checked today and .JPGs are still being stored in the folder
The only thing I can think of is perhaps your computer OS is hiding them - check the size of the folder to see.

Viper DaSnake, i used my portapower uk mains input to 4 slot usb output charger to power up my mini2 cam to support familiarisation.
The charger outputs 5 volts and upto 4.2 amp, and only provides the level of current drawn by the device.
So i unplugged all my phones and tablets and then attached the mini2. Works a treat and allows you to work on the cam in doors.
Its not currently available on Amazon UK but there are alternatives, which are also on Ebay UK.

(I wasn't trying to suggest you were being sponsored by DDPai when i mentioned them using your video, I was impressed they are responding so well and it's extremely welcome to see them continuing to support their products and communicate with their customers)

I for one would love to see a follow up article covering dual cam options with the m6+ and other compatible units. (written is good but video would be even better)

I would also be interested if you could cover the polarising filter option too, I have ordered the stick-on type with my cam. I'm a bit concerned about how effective that will be as every video showing such filters have shown that they work best with some degree of tweaking; not an easy thing with a sticker.

That said, I may get lucky and not have too much reflection to deal with anyway; hurry up Mr courier....

In case anyone is wondering, the wireless remote button uses a standard Lithium CR2032 3V battery. You may want to have an extra one as backup.

any ideas why my memory card contents are chinese all of a sudden?

Hi Mat ~
Good that so many of your bloggers appear to have success with their DDpai M6+ cam. It is a really well designed & constructed piece of kit. The terrific video quality produced by M6+ and innovative search function provided by DDpai APP to look back thru recorded footage via wifi and android-based is very impressive. No maps were overlay-ed on "tracking" f'n, which makes squiggly lines 'route travelled' on blank page rather meaningless, but that is not deal breaker. During the first two weeks of setting-up my M6+, I planned to buy 2nd unit to incorporate as rear cam (no problem in supply of the unit from ebay provider you suggested in review of the cam). Mine sits very discretely out of sight behind rear-vision mirror (but I wish it was still working).

Unfortunately, in my case despite initial positive experience with M6+ (and in contact with DDpai manufacturer, thru Kevin Lee, Mktg Mgr), my situation is now not too good. Following receipt of the cam on 12 Jul, my Sony Z1 phone connected successfully. Set-up, formatting SD card and updating firmware was easy, although achieving subsequent wifi connection to the cam proved to be hit-and-miss. Often the APP simply indicated “No camera detected”. Tried 2 other android platforms to connect with my M6+. Both were successful a few times, but then also advised “No camera detected” … “Network connection failed”. Tried un-installing the APP and re-installing several times. Tried re-booting all 3 android platforms and the M6+. Used top quality micro SDcard (Samsung Pro Plus 128GB - 90-95 read-write). Tried other cards, incl Sandisk Ultra 4GB. Tried several different cables and power source of (all 2.1 amp). All LEDs on the DDpai M6plus have been illuminated when ign is on (and also for few days when I tried power setup thru Cellink B), but in at least 50 attempts in last 2 wks I have been unable to connect at all to the M6+.

I have removed the SD cards and successfully viewed recorded footage on PC (using VLC media player as suggested by one of your bloggers – thanks Anthony). Video quality is just what I wanted (even audio is good). However, the recordings stopped on 26 Jul. Since then, I have not been able to achieve anything with my M6+. (frustrating and disappointing) I tried making email contact again with Mr Lee in DDpai (twice), but nil response. Any suggestions pls (before I quit on M6+ and lconsider alternative, incl JooVuu X) ~ Leon.
