What SD CARD should I buy?

If you want an SD Card for your camera - these are the ones I use and recommend.

I'd strongly recommend not to buy any SD cards off ebay - I've heard about too many issues with counterfeit cards - often sold on by unwitting resellers. My inbox regularly gets messages from people who bought a £150 camera then cheaped out and bought a £3 memory card on ebay - Then when it doesn't worth they blame the camera! It doesn't make any sense. Good memory is cheaper than it's ever been - see the links above.

A lot of HD cameras will not work properly with cards larger than 32GB (cards over 32GB are usually SDXC rather than the SDHC standard used by 32GB cards. SDXC cards use the ex-FAT system rather than FAT32 - in short they are a different standard). - so don't just buy the biggest card you can afford - read the specs in the manual to see what it accepts.

RECOMMENDED CARDS (for action cams - see dashcams below)

CLASS 10 UHS-1 CARDS (For HD Cameras)

U3 CARD (For 4K cameras)

The SD card in a dashcam is re-written over, more frequently than in other types of cameras. Some manufacturers void their guarantee if an SD card was used in a dashcam. So, no surprise, there are special High Endurance SD cards made just for's some.

VERY IMPORTANT. These links take you to the product, however Amazon have three different ways of selling. There's Amazon Direct - This means that you are only dealing with Amazon themselves, then there's other sellers that use Amazon's facilities - these show as Fulfilled By Amazon and finally there's Market Place sellers that advertise on Amazon, but operate independently.  I strongly recommend that you only use the first...the Amazon Direct - Sold By Amazon option. Even if it appears that you are paying a couple of £/$ more it is more than likely you are comparing the price of a real item against the price of a fake.

To give you an idea of the extent of the fake goods problem. In a 2016 survey by Apple - 90% of the 'Apple' chargers sold through Amazon - using the other the two methods..which includes the "Fulfilled by Amazon" option -  were found to be counterfeit....90%!

Dashcam Review: DDPai M6+ is the best mini cam I've used

In the video below you'll see a full Review of the best Mini Dashcam I've used. I've been using this in my car for six weeks and I can't fault the performance. I'm so happy with it that I have plans to buy a couple more when I can get the money together. Then I can replace the camera in my other car as well as try the dual camera functionality in my roadster.

The highlights of this camera for me are the magnetic mount, the video quality and the time-lapse parking mode. Other notable features include WiFi, GPS and a wireless remote.

I bought mine from the ebay store linked below: (Click your country to see the current price).

UK   US   AU   DE   AT   BE   CA   CH   ES   IE   IT   NL

I’ve purchased from this store plenty of times over the years without any problems. Delivery usually takes approx 10-14 days to the UK.

I cannot report on the long term reliablity of a product that has only been on the market a few weeks...but I do hope it carries on working for a long time, as I really like this one.

Downloadable sample clips here: - Please don't be that guy who always tries streaming the videos and then gets back to me to say that they look terrible when streamed. These are provided for Downloading - they look like they were recorded with a potato if streamed over pcloud.

My 'BEGINNERS GUIDE to Dashcams' can be seen here:

UPDATE - I must stress that this is not a basic simple camera suitable for beginners - it has a lot of features and you need to have a bit of experience with apps, smartphones and previous dashcams before you buy this camera.  If you are looking for your first car camera...this is not suitable. I have a list of recommended dashcams and something like the Transcend Drivepro 200 is a good place to start. Big clear screen, minimal options and simple features, no WiFi or reliance on smartphone apps which can lead to potential compatibility issues with specific phones.

I was getting a lot of questions about this camera - if you read through the comments below you'll see that the same questions keep popping up - so to help anyone out who is having issues with the smartphone features of this camera - please watch the video below - you'll also see a demonstration of the CPL filter in use. I recommend you watch this one on Youtube itself (click the youtube logo at the bottom of the video) and then you can skip to the appropriate section you need.

thanks for responding mate! i would guess the ddpai m6 plus is powered by the 2.1amp. what about the mini? Is it powered by the 1amp ?

I only have a single 12v socket .. hence i will need to use a splitter. Will there be any complications on powering up the cams from a e.g. 3 way splitter?

Re powering 2 cams from a single 12v car cigarette lighter / power outlet.
My mini2 needs a 2.1amp charge. I would assume the mini would be the same.
I would advise checking out with the supplier of any double socket car charger as found on amazon and screwfix.

Hi Everyone,

I managed to update my ddpai from firmware to All is well when using the but after updating, the recording seems to have a background noise! so annoying when played as it is louder than the captured sound. I tried recording on a quiet and still environment but the noise is still there. the camera did not fell off or anything and i'm using the correct charger as recommended.

Does anyone encountered this issue as well?

November 29, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMark

Just a quick warning, the CPL filter I got bundled with the Boblov DDpai M6+ version of the camera on was out by 90 degrees in terms of its polarization, meaning that it had no real effect in stopping reflections and if anything made them worse under certain conditions.

Evening Folks.

I ordered this pie, which arrived today, so I am just setting it up.

Have successfully connected to my iphone, but I wish to view the footage on my PC, along with the GPS map and speed on the same screen - can anyone recommend any relevant software?

November 30, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterYorkshireman

@Yorkshireman, look at DashCam Viewer Free to use for short videos but you'll need to pay for longer viewing.
This needs the SD card in your PC.

I'd love a faster wifi connection to the cam and access straight to the PC

Just bought the M6+, all appears to be going well with the app (android) except for the parking mode. I have left the unit wired to a socket indoors for well over 10 minutes and it just keeps recording in normal video mode. The unit prompted an update, which I did but this made no difference, having read some of this blog I have reset the unit but still no parking mode. Any suggestions please.

AndyD parking mode kicks in on mine after about 15minutes.
I downgraded the software as the newer version appeared to be temperamental switching to park mode.
Any movement will stop park mode.
Note: you will need a constant power source in the car for this to work. I had to wire mine twice as BMWs go to sleep after 20 minutes and what I thought was constant power turned off

November 30, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterPeter

Re parking mode. I emailed ddpai and got a quick response. They say parking mode kick in at 15 mins. Tried it and it did (18mins) but then when I walk close to camera it reverted to normal, is this normal. Surely this is going yo waste battery! Also the freeze frame file could only be seen when I removed the card, way down at the bottom of the file list. Am I using the wrong settings?

December 1, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterAndyD

The camera wakes up when it detects motion and records full frame video for three minutes, then goes back to sleep and records 1 frame per second. This is stated in Mat's review video. So, yes, the behaviour you've observed is normal.

December 1, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterC. Smith

That isn't what mines doing.....

It goes into 1fps but when there is movement it reverts to full normal recording for 15(ish) minutes before going back to 1fps.

Any body got an old firmware I can try?

December 2, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterAndyD

Does anyone of you got a firmware version of I need to revert mine because it got a loud background noise on the recording.. does anyone have this issue of background noise? sounded like broken speaker.

Tnx for another interresting review.

Thinking about buying DDpai M6.

Are there any known fake`s on the marked? or can i assume all the ebay sellers, selling the real one?

Was thinking about buying from the UK link, but cheaper for me, to buy directly from China.
Live in norway.

Maybe anyone can recomend a china seller?

December 5, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterOggi

I'm not aware of ant fakes - I bought mine from the store in China linked to in just under the video. Click on one of the initials - e.g. UK to see the details.

Hi Mark

I have put up the links and instructions on how to get the downloads from the Chinese site on a dash cam forum. This contains all the downloads past and present for all their products. Here is the link.

I have found the latest update to have fixed a lot of previous errors, but cannot comment on the sound, as I have mine switched off.

December 6, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterDebs

Hi Oggi,
I purchased 2 DDPAI M6 Plus dash cams from this supplier;
Very fast delivery and I managed to get some discount by purchasing 2 cams.

Hi With regard to the ddpai m6+ time lapse video i found it great then i upgraed the firmware and lost that function is there any way i can get it back..

December 6, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterToby

Hi Deb,

Thanks for the link. can you help me verify my sound issue? may i request a recording clip of yours? btw, what is your firmware version? are you already up to date? thanks

Purchased one of these last month due to Techmoan's recommendations, it arrived a couple of days ago, managed to set everything up and got used to the app, everything is fine other than the fact that everything is blurry, all footage is a blurry mess but it appears as though the camera is constantly focused on my windscreen as any rain drops on the screen are sharp but everything outside of the vehicle is blurry and out of focus, you can't read any number plates, no matter how close a vehicle is that is how blurry and out-of-focus the camera is.

Does anybody have any ideas on what to do here? I'm driving a VW Fox and the camera is directly behind my rear view mirror, none of the vehicle is in shot but there are a few reflections visible, doesn't matter what the conditions are, the camera seems to be focused on my windscreen and anything on the windscreen.

Additionally: My windscreen is clean so there's no reason for it to focus on it.

December 8, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterRazor

If you've taken the protective plastic film off the lens...and it's blurry, it's faulty and needs to be replaced.

December 8, 2016 | Registered CommenterTechmoan

I've contacted the ebay seller (the one you recommended,) to see if they'll send out another, there's no way I'm paying for tracked postage back to china though, this will be fun to see what happens.

If anyone is interested in the problems I'm receiving, here's an album of a few snapshots from various different piece of footage that demonstrate my problem.

December 8, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterRazor

Please continue dashcam reviews - sod the moaners. I also bought two Mini 0806s and they were great cameras with fantastic results BUT erratic so "couldn't” depend on them so bought the DDpai for the front a couple of days back and am still trying to set it up due to issues with card compatibility I think - its saying something which is not in the instructions!
A quick observation about the design - the mount looks as though it should give you almost 360 adjustability but when I stuck it on the windscreen I didn't get the north south axis dead vertical so the picture is lop sided no matter how you revolve it on the mount - more adhesive is now required.

And a quick question - does it start recording over the older files once it reaches the card's capacity? If so does it notify you when this is about to happen?

December 9, 2016 | Unregistered Commenterm.angelo

hello!! thanks for the great review! I learnt that you use a battery pack to enable the parking mode of the ddpai m6 plus yes!

Can you help me with the connection of the battery pack to the fuse box?

I know i should be connecting it to existing fuse slot that only turns on when ign is on. But which one should it be?

Should i be connecting it to the 12v c/ lighter fuse? Or can i connect it with any other fuse as long as it only turns on during ign?

help will be greatly appreciated!

December 10, 2016 | Unregistered Commenteralvin

Is possible to turn off wifi in this camera ?
I want to buy this, but I want to avoid wifi inside of my car (children etc.).

If not possible please recommend me something the best in dark/night like M6+ (I'm night driver) or better with ability of disabling wifi.

December 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterTomG

@TomG Not understanding the reason for the need to turn off wifi but there isn't an off option.

wifi is not internet enabled, it is peer to peer. also there is no risk from the transmission compared to the 3g etc signals

December 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterPeter

Hello Peter.
It is dangerous, but nobody wants to know about this. Especially big IT who are silent because problem impact of sales phones etc.etc. and all of our modern life.
My choice is "wifi off" in place where I don't need this (my car).

Thank You for answer, I going to look for something else.

December 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterTomG

I understand the problem with very high frequency radio waves but working in electronics, I feel the signal of these devices is too weak, unlike mobile phones). Low frequency electrical transmission is much more dangerous (pylons).

Good luck with your search

December 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterPeter

Maybe you right.
I would need to buy M6+ and do measurement to fully agree or disagree with You, so I pass (don't want to buy this thing now :) )

Thank You for information, and I'm looking for different very good in night replacement !

December 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterTomG

Please don't stop the reviews - the flipping things don't last long so need to know what to buy next. Bought one these based on your review and after some problems with card compatibility I find it just as you describe though the swivel connection could be more adaptable as I couldn't get mine vertical/horizontal so more pads ordered from Amazon to enable restick.
My only issue now is that the vids run at about ten times or so fast so that even with my selection of viewers I am unable to run them at normal speed - am I doing something wrong?
