What SD CARD should I buy?

If you want an SD Card for your camera - these are the ones I use and recommend.

I'd strongly recommend not to buy any SD cards off ebay - I've heard about too many issues with counterfeit cards - often sold on by unwitting resellers. My inbox regularly gets messages from people who bought a £150 camera then cheaped out and bought a £3 memory card on ebay - Then when it doesn't worth they blame the camera! It doesn't make any sense. Good memory is cheaper than it's ever been - see the links above.

A lot of HD cameras will not work properly with cards larger than 32GB (cards over 32GB are usually SDXC rather than the SDHC standard used by 32GB cards. SDXC cards use the ex-FAT system rather than FAT32 - in short they are a different standard). - so don't just buy the biggest card you can afford - read the specs in the manual to see what it accepts.

RECOMMENDED CARDS (for action cams - see dashcams below)

CLASS 10 UHS-1 CARDS (For HD Cameras)

U3 CARD (For 4K cameras)

The SD card in a dashcam is re-written over, more frequently than in other types of cameras. Some manufacturers void their guarantee if an SD card was used in a dashcam. So, no surprise, there are special High Endurance SD cards made just for's some.

VERY IMPORTANT. These links take you to the product, however Amazon have three different ways of selling. There's Amazon Direct - This means that you are only dealing with Amazon themselves, then there's other sellers that use Amazon's facilities - these show as Fulfilled By Amazon and finally there's Market Place sellers that advertise on Amazon, but operate independently.  I strongly recommend that you only use the first...the Amazon Direct - Sold By Amazon option. Even if it appears that you are paying a couple of £/$ more it is more than likely you are comparing the price of a real item against the price of a fake.

To give you an idea of the extent of the fake goods problem. In a 2016 survey by Apple - 90% of the 'Apple' chargers sold through Amazon - using the other the two methods..which includes the "Fulfilled by Amazon" option -  were found to be counterfeit....90%!

Dashcam Review: DDPai M6+ is the best mini cam I've used

In the video below you'll see a full Review of the best Mini Dashcam I've used. I've been using this in my car for six weeks and I can't fault the performance. I'm so happy with it that I have plans to buy a couple more when I can get the money together. Then I can replace the camera in my other car as well as try the dual camera functionality in my roadster.

The highlights of this camera for me are the magnetic mount, the video quality and the time-lapse parking mode. Other notable features include WiFi, GPS and a wireless remote.

I bought mine from the ebay store linked below: (Click your country to see the current price).

UK   US   AU   DE   AT   BE   CA   CH   ES   IE   IT   NL

I’ve purchased from this store plenty of times over the years without any problems. Delivery usually takes approx 10-14 days to the UK.

I cannot report on the long term reliablity of a product that has only been on the market a few weeks...but I do hope it carries on working for a long time, as I really like this one.

Downloadable sample clips here: - Please don't be that guy who always tries streaming the videos and then gets back to me to say that they look terrible when streamed. These are provided for Downloading - they look like they were recorded with a potato if streamed over pcloud.

My 'BEGINNERS GUIDE to Dashcams' can be seen here:

UPDATE - I must stress that this is not a basic simple camera suitable for beginners - it has a lot of features and you need to have a bit of experience with apps, smartphones and previous dashcams before you buy this camera.  If you are looking for your first car camera...this is not suitable. I have a list of recommended dashcams and something like the Transcend Drivepro 200 is a good place to start. Big clear screen, minimal options and simple features, no WiFi or reliance on smartphone apps which can lead to potential compatibility issues with specific phones.

I was getting a lot of questions about this camera - if you read through the comments below you'll see that the same questions keep popping up - so to help anyone out who is having issues with the smartphone features of this camera - please watch the video below - you'll also see a demonstration of the CPL filter in use. I recommend you watch this one on Youtube itself (click the youtube logo at the bottom of the video) and then you can skip to the appropriate section you need.

Back on page 4 of the comments, somewhere on that page I talked about my time lapse stopping.
I'm almost certain that is due to the heat.

Below is a snipped of a post from the admin on DDPai 2015-9-14
(poorly) Translated from:
...inside will reach very high temperatures this will tachograph circuit itself cause greater damage and aging, but also on the built-in battery or super capacitor damage and reduced service life. Based on the above considerations, the use of super capacitors DDPai M5 series and the use of polymer lithium DDPai M6 series, so far, have not yet officially launched stop monitoring.

Well my sd card finally showed up, a Samsung sdxc evo class1 128gb.

It seems good so far, it formatted happily and the cam seems OK with it (formatted at 119gb)

I will have to keep an eye on it for a while and see if it behaves.

On the software side I came across this
Has anyone tried this with any success?

I will get the demo and try it once I have some proper footage on the cam.

My sd card arrived and seems to work OK so far. It's a Samsung sdxc Evo, class 10, 128gb. It formatted to 119gb without any drama.

If it plays up at all I will share on here.

just as contrast to all the people with problems. i got the M6+ from ali express, put a new 64gb sandisk card in, joined Wifi with iphone(5s), formated card (because techmoan said always format the card in camera). all works. even GPS picks up quickly (and less lag than in techmoans video). using it since 2 weeks now, it stands the heat in THAILAND (in a dark car, so dont you UK people worry!) without issue as well. and i am VERY HAPPY. specially with night performance. so, many thanks, @techmoan!
and yes, parking time lapse mode works too. no issues.

god iam so lucky...
no issues with wifi, phone OS is even so smart to be in the WIFI of camera and see that it has no gateway so it still uses internet from 4G. i can download clips in app, edit and compile them with silly imovie on the phone - i LOVE the wireless button which i tucked behind my steering wheel - as i call it "capture silly road events button".

(yes, app a but funny sometimes but once you get the logic its ok, at least app does not crash, compass in dashboard view no function but who cares..)
BUT, guys / girls - he made a video about his "findings" and his opinion. which i , most of us are VERY thankful for. and its entertaining too.
he is not that companies reseller, nor their tech support, moan stone or whatever. he did not force anyone to buy anything and frankly if i were him and i do something for fun as he does videos and get a lot of complains thrown at - i would throw the towel and just quit doing videos.

please dont do that, techmoan! your work is very appreciated. cheers!

Hi, been a fan of the site for awhile and decided to purchase this dash cam. I saw in a earlier post someone mentioned they use a RAVPower Portable Charger 22000mAh with it. I was just wandering how they are getting on with this and how long it lasts? Is the camera still working ok?

Also any recommendations on memory cards is it better to go with a 32gb or are 64gb working ok? Planning to get one from Amazon.

Hi Matt, I was the guy who bought the RAVPower Charger, and I'm happy to report it works very well, I find because of the Pass Through Option, it charges the Power Bank and the Camera without any issues, but I do have it connected to a 2.1Amp Socket in the Vehicle, as for length of running, leaving it running over night without any problems, but did try leaving it running on a Saturday Morning and came back to the Vehicle Monday Morning and as expected the Power Bank had turned off.

As for Running it, I find I'll turn off the Iginition, but you then have to remember to press the Button on the side of the Power Bank to allow it to run the Camera, otherwise the Camera will turn off as usual, but as for the Parking Mode, it works great, it looked very cool watching back via my iPhone as you see the evening get darker and darker. :-)

Oh and an Update on the CPL Filter Sticker, it does a very good job of getting rid of Dash Refections, highly recommended!!

Markie, how is the CPL at night?

Mattyt, I use a 128GB ADATA with my M6+. No problems at all. Formats fine with the camera.

August 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterAlbert

Hi Albert, this is going to sound crazy, but unfortunately I've got my Camera in my Company Van which I can only use for work and as it also has a Tracker, I've as yet I've not had to be out late enough to fully test it in the Dark as yet I'm afraid, I have gone out to the vehicle in the Dark and put the Lights on, and it still seemed to show enough the area clearly enough, but couldn't say 100% how much it changes the picture having the CPL Filter on, but with the nights drawing slowly in, I'll be sure to test it soon enough.

Sorry if that doesn't really help. :-(

Thanks for the quick reply. I take it if I search for RAVPower Portable Charger 22000mAh its the black or white one on Amazon? It doesn't seem to mention pass through charging.
Do you have it connected through an adapter on the12v cigerette socket? I have a Volvo v40 it does have a usb lead socket in the centre console but I have no idea what the output is from that although it does charge my phone.

I ve seen people talking about spare fixing stickers. The distributor techmoan suggested now sells these for £4.99.

August 11, 2016 | Unregistered CommenterMattyt

Hi Matt, I had the issue that it didn't mention Pass-Through Charging, but asked the question on Amazon and received the answer that it did, and I can confirm 100% that it does support Pass-Through Charging, I went for the Black version so it would be harder to spot in the Vehicle, and this is the one I bought:

As for running the RAVPower, I also run a 'BESTEK 3-Socket Cigarette Lighter Power Adapter DC Outlet Splitter with 5.2A Max 4-Port USB Car Charger' because I also run a Sat Nav, and wanted to make sure I had enough power to Charge the Power Bank, run the Camera and also run the Sat Nav too, and happy to report haven't had any problems, I also bought that from Amazon:

As for the Fixing Stickers, I bought a spare one from eBay for £4.99 and (sorry about all the links) got it from here:

Hope hat helps.
