What SD CARD should I buy?

If you want an SD Card for your camera - these are the ones I use and recommend.

I'd strongly recommend not to buy any SD cards off ebay - I've heard about too many issues with counterfeit cards - often sold on by unwitting resellers. My inbox regularly gets messages from people who bought a £150 camera then cheaped out and bought a £3 memory card on ebay - Then when it doesn't worth they blame the camera! It doesn't make any sense. Good memory is cheaper than it's ever been - see the links above.

A lot of HD cameras will not work properly with cards larger than 32GB (cards over 32GB are usually SDXC rather than the SDHC standard used by 32GB cards. SDXC cards use the ex-FAT system rather than FAT32 - in short they are a different standard). - so don't just buy the biggest card you can afford - read the specs in the manual to see what it accepts.

RECOMMENDED CARDS (for action cams - see dashcams below)

CLASS 10 UHS-1 CARDS (For HD Cameras)

U3 CARD (For 4K cameras)

The SD card in a dashcam is re-written over, more frequently than in other types of cameras. Some manufacturers void their guarantee if an SD card was used in a dashcam. So, no surprise, there are special High Endurance SD cards made just for's some.

VERY IMPORTANT. These links take you to the product, however Amazon have three different ways of selling. There's Amazon Direct - This means that you are only dealing with Amazon themselves, then there's other sellers that use Amazon's facilities - these show as Fulfilled By Amazon and finally there's Market Place sellers that advertise on Amazon, but operate independently.  I strongly recommend that you only use the first...the Amazon Direct - Sold By Amazon option. Even if it appears that you are paying a couple of £/$ more it is more than likely you are comparing the price of a real item against the price of a fake.

To give you an idea of the extent of the fake goods problem. In a 2016 survey by Apple - 90% of the 'Apple' chargers sold through Amazon - using the other the two methods..which includes the "Fulfilled by Amazon" option -  were found to be counterfeit....90%!

Dashcam Review: DDPai M6+ is the best mini cam I've used

In the video below you'll see a full Review of the best Mini Dashcam I've used. I've been using this in my car for six weeks and I can't fault the performance. I'm so happy with it that I have plans to buy a couple more when I can get the money together. Then I can replace the camera in my other car as well as try the dual camera functionality in my roadster.

The highlights of this camera for me are the magnetic mount, the video quality and the time-lapse parking mode. Other notable features include WiFi, GPS and a wireless remote.

I bought mine from the ebay store linked below: (Click your country to see the current price).

UK   US   AU   DE   AT   BE   CA   CH   ES   IE   IT   NL

I’ve purchased from this store plenty of times over the years without any problems. Delivery usually takes approx 10-14 days to the UK.

I cannot report on the long term reliablity of a product that has only been on the market a few weeks...but I do hope it carries on working for a long time, as I really like this one.

Downloadable sample clips here: - Please don't be that guy who always tries streaming the videos and then gets back to me to say that they look terrible when streamed. These are provided for Downloading - they look like they were recorded with a potato if streamed over pcloud.

My 'BEGINNERS GUIDE to Dashcams' can be seen here:

UPDATE - I must stress that this is not a basic simple camera suitable for beginners - it has a lot of features and you need to have a bit of experience with apps, smartphones and previous dashcams before you buy this camera.  If you are looking for your first car camera...this is not suitable. I have a list of recommended dashcams and something like the Transcend Drivepro 200 is a good place to start. Big clear screen, minimal options and simple features, no WiFi or reliance on smartphone apps which can lead to potential compatibility issues with specific phones.

I was getting a lot of questions about this camera - if you read through the comments below you'll see that the same questions keep popping up - so to help anyone out who is having issues with the smartphone features of this camera - please watch the video below - you'll also see a demonstration of the CPL filter in use. I recommend you watch this one on Youtube itself (click the youtube logo at the bottom of the video) and then you can skip to the appropriate section you need.

I love the DDPia dash Cam but have discovered that its not entirely compatible with the Dash Cam Viewer I'm using. I hope you don't think I'm being cheeky but I'm wondering what viewer you use please.

February 27, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterFrazer

Wonder what a 'Dash Cam Viewer' is?

February 27, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterGary

I meant Dashcam Viewer software There is a tutorial of it on You Tube. Do you use a tablet as I find my phone screen to small

February 27, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterFrazer

Ahh yea you need a pretty solid phone.
I've got Note 4 and it just about does it. I have an old Tab 2 that won't.
Switching of the engine will increase the wifi streaming by 4X as there is less interference. (But you'll need to power it with battery pack or something)
Try only using 720p video in the settings.
Failing that.. not sure. Get an OTG card reader and transfer all the videos from the Cam to an sd card and run home to view 'em?

Hi .
First of all thanks you for spending so much time make these valuable and informative video reviews on the dash cams.
It's amazing car manufactures don't fit these as standard now.
I've just bought a New Hyundai Tucson, they recommend as an optional extra the Phillips range of Dash cams...
These are rather bulky and obtrusive.
My budget is £100- £150 I do like the DDPia M6 +
on the dash board is a built in 8" inch screen which has with wifi capability and blue tooth connectivity.0
So there is no need to buy a dash cam with a screen as I could link the camera to the car's own screen/display.
Do you know whether DDPia are going to be releasing a dual system front and rear camera recording?
Thank you once again brilliant reviews regards Julian

Has any one found a better phone app then the Ddapi one.
Mine updated and is now unstable, slow and mainly fails to connect

March 15, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterPeter

Youmera also works.

March 15, 2017 | Unregistered Commentertom

First of all, please do not stop making dash cam videos, the way you do your homework on all units is excellent.

3 years ago (nearly) on watching you excellent review on a dash cam I would think you have forgotten now, but I purchased the Vicovation WF1 with wi fi connecability. It has been excellent 10 out of 10 but I think age has caught up with it and the sencor inside the connection input has come lose and in fact fallen out.

I have watched your superb report on the DD Pai M6 Plus. In your opinion do you think this is the nearest I will get to my deceased wonderful Vicovation WF1.
Again Techmoan, keep up the good work, we all need you out there, also manufacter's take note,
Thanks again, kind regards, Derek.

I still use it and it works great for me....however there are a lot of people who really don't seem to get it.
This tells me that I can't really speak for how other people will experience products.. and the amount of backlash from every dashcam review has really put me off looking at them. There have been many times I've used a camera without any problem...and yet everyone else tells me that it doesn't work the same for them....and they get angry at me because of their experiences.

A simpler camera that seems to cause less division is the that's my go-to suggestion....I haven't heard back from anyone about that one.

Just got a ddpai m6 plus and going to hard wire it to live using fuse tap and ddpai hard wire kit

What size fuse do I need to use on the tap for the ddpai unit? (not the fuse I'm piggy backing from)

March 18, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterBigup

My hardwire kit (not DDpai) came with a glass fuse rated at 2 amps so that's what I used in the piggyback.

March 18, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterR Lees

Hello, I recently brought the m6 plus after seeing your review. Not sure I'm I regretting it or not but I'm having a problem at the moment not sure if anyone have the same problem. I can't seem to download clips to my iPhone ? The wifi speed seem to be like between 50-150kb? also what program do you use to view clips I've been using vlc but it's just not as clear as what I seen online to be ? Also program where I can zoom in on number plate ?

Bigup- I hardware my dashcam with a piggyback fuse too and used a 5amp. Heard you can use a 3 amp too which is better

March 18, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterDnB Tse

Right if anyone having the same problem try changing your clock from 12hours to 24hoours.

Rather annoying that the phone clock has to be 24hour clock to be able to download clips but no worries just change to 24hours when you want to download clip change back to 12hours if you are like me and prefer 12hours clock :)

Unless someone has a fix for this ?

March 19, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterDnB Tse

Switching of the engine will increase the wifi streaming by 4X as there is less interference

March 19, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterGary

Thank Gary, tried that already also tried with a iPad only solution was to change clock to 24hours

March 19, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterDnB Tse

How has the long term reliability been on this cam Mat? I'm thinking of ditching my Thinkware F750 dual set up and buying a couple of these for the front and rear. My F750 is in many ways a faultless set up in terms of reliability, but I like to mix it up a bit every now and again and there's a couple of things I want, i.e. 60fps, CPL etc.

Also, how do you think the image quality will compare to my F750?

March 21, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterTheCarMadDad

please can some suggest a front and rear car cam please around the £60 /80 range
thank you paul

March 23, 2017 | Unregistered Commenterpaul

I cannot reach DDpai support since several days and I cannot login anymore. And therefore I cannot change the settings of my M6plus. There site is very very slow now, some days ago the speed was good. Does Techmoan or someone know why?
I bought this camera because of the professional review of Techmoan and I am very glad I did. For downloading parts of my recordings I use a wifi distance of almost 8 meter. So inside my house, my car is parked in front of my house!
Thanks for a quick answer. Greetings from Holland!

March 23, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterArthur

Since today the DDpai app is om the air again and the speed is ok. Very happy I can login again!
Have nice drives today!

Thank you so much for taking the time to do these very well presented reviews. I had bought a Mobius a while back based on your review, which I liked but had an unfortunate early end of life with a cup of coffee. Don't ask.... I just ordered the DDPai M6 through your link. I believe I am really going to like the magnetic feature instead of unscrewing a camera off the mount constantly. Cheers.

March 31, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterThomas

Have you ever tested another DDpia dashcam, the DDpia Mini, I really need a tubular camera to best fit my car and I don't really mind just 1080p and no GPS and it's a lot cheaper at £55 and I like the feature of using the phone via WiFi to see the screen.

April 9, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterPhil

Reply to Phil,
I've had the Mini2 now for just under a year now and it's been rock solid, both in terms of hardware and software upgrades. It sits hidden behind the interior mirror and produces good video on 1080 and 2440 formats. My only grippe was that it has no filter to remove reflections, mainly from the dash board. In the end i purchased on ebay a 20mm polarising filter for another barrel type cam and adapted that, works really well. In summary really pleased.

April 10, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterTravelbuddy

Thanks for the info Travelbuddy, I was really interested in the Mini though not the Mini2 but I makes me feel confident about buying a DDpai dashcam.

April 10, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterPhil

So I took the advice and bought the did pai, had it professionally fitted to the car. Impossible, however to get any connection to my iPad. It tells me to connect cam to wifi which is not possible as it is in the car and loses life if bought close to wifi. There is a comment in Japanese every ten seconds or so.
So actually useless till now!
Is there any way to overcome this
Perhaps I should rip out the carefullyand very rigidly glued base from the glass and connect it indoors.

April 12, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterDavid

The mount camera slides on and off the'll see it demonstrated in the video.
So the disc remains in the car...the mount (including USB port) comes into the house.

April 12, 2017 | Registered CommenterTechmoan

It sends out it's own wifi signal. You need to be connected to a mobile phone signal (with 3G or 4G) so if your ipad does not have a sim installed with a valid mobile plan, you won't be able to connect to it. In the house I have to disconnect my phone from my home wifi and then connect to the ddpai wifi using 3G

April 12, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterDebs

I wanted to let you know that your original DDPAI M6 Plus was THE deciding factor in me buying my first dashcam system.
Additionally you CAN connect two (2) DDPAI M6 Plus dashcams in the same app however they must be named differently on the WI-FI and you can jump from one to the other. I have 2 M6 Pluses in my 2011 GMC pickup (Front and Back) and they work just fine.

Also I have seen a lot of comments around the net for USA users that you cannot get it to display in MPH speed and this is incorrect,
in the app it is incorrectly labeled as Imperial System for MPH.

As far as using bigger Memory cards I bought mine thru SpyTech INC and they have an exe. add on to the formatting on the card that allows up to 128 GB cards and seems to work really well with high end SanDisk cards, like always with these cards you get what you PAY FOR. I drive long distances sometimes and this gives me LOTS of storage.

So anyway thanks for your reviews it really changed my mind on what I was going to buy and I really like that they have continous firmware updates for these dashcams and the performance keeps getting better all the time

April 17, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterDavid Hobson

I love the Camera. I had trouble with a lexar 32 Gb card, every time I started up the car, it would tell me that the card was not complient and the same thing I think in
Chinese voice from the camera (over and over again) The only way to stop it was to remove the card and re-insert it. Changed to a Secure Digital 64 gig ultra and have no problems at all.
I do have a problem with this Temp file thing, it means that the information is being saved twice which quickly fills the card - any suggestions???

April 25, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterBill Australia

> Bill Australia
Answer I got :

It's supposed to fill the entire card with temporary files. These are the files that the video clips are written into so that 1) the files only have to be updated with video instead of created ( file creation takes much longer on any computer system ) and 2) it guarantees that the recorder software can reserve all the free space on the card.
Your card has 50% free space because your device does not have the latest firmware. The old firmware has a limit of 64Gb. The card in my recorder is 128Gb and all of it is taken up with the temporary files.

April 25, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterGary

I would like to know if the ddpai m6 dash cam picks up motion via the camera body or does it work direct from the lens which could make it a security camera hidden nicely al
