What SD CARD should I buy?

If you want an SD Card for your camera - these are the ones I use and recommend.

I'd strongly recommend not to buy any SD cards off ebay - I've heard about too many issues with counterfeit cards - often sold on by unwitting resellers. My inbox regularly gets messages from people who bought a £150 camera then cheaped out and bought a £3 memory card on ebay - Then when it doesn't worth they blame the camera! It doesn't make any sense. Good memory is cheaper than it's ever been - see the links above.

A lot of HD cameras will not work properly with cards larger than 32GB (cards over 32GB are usually SDXC rather than the SDHC standard used by 32GB cards. SDXC cards use the ex-FAT system rather than FAT32 - in short they are a different standard). - so don't just buy the biggest card you can afford - read the specs in the manual to see what it accepts.

RECOMMENDED CARDS (for action cams - see dashcams below)

CLASS 10 UHS-1 CARDS (For HD Cameras)

U3 CARD (For 4K cameras)

The SD card in a dashcam is re-written over, more frequently than in other types of cameras. Some manufacturers void their guarantee if an SD card was used in a dashcam. So, no surprise, there are special High Endurance SD cards made just for's some.

VERY IMPORTANT. These links take you to the product, however Amazon have three different ways of selling. There's Amazon Direct - This means that you are only dealing with Amazon themselves, then there's other sellers that use Amazon's facilities - these show as Fulfilled By Amazon and finally there's Market Place sellers that advertise on Amazon, but operate independently.  I strongly recommend that you only use the first...the Amazon Direct - Sold By Amazon option. Even if it appears that you are paying a couple of £/$ more it is more than likely you are comparing the price of a real item against the price of a fake.

To give you an idea of the extent of the fake goods problem. In a 2016 survey by Apple - 90% of the 'Apple' chargers sold through Amazon - using the other the two methods..which includes the "Fulfilled by Amazon" option -  were found to be counterfeit....90%!

Dashcam Review: DDPai M6+ is the best mini cam I've used

In the video below you'll see a full Review of the best Mini Dashcam I've used. I've been using this in my car for six weeks and I can't fault the performance. I'm so happy with it that I have plans to buy a couple more when I can get the money together. Then I can replace the camera in my other car as well as try the dual camera functionality in my roadster.

The highlights of this camera for me are the magnetic mount, the video quality and the time-lapse parking mode. Other notable features include WiFi, GPS and a wireless remote.

I bought mine from the ebay store linked below: (Click your country to see the current price).

UK   US   AU   DE   AT   BE   CA   CH   ES   IE   IT   NL

I’ve purchased from this store plenty of times over the years without any problems. Delivery usually takes approx 10-14 days to the UK.

I cannot report on the long term reliablity of a product that has only been on the market a few weeks...but I do hope it carries on working for a long time, as I really like this one.

Downloadable sample clips here: - Please don't be that guy who always tries streaming the videos and then gets back to me to say that they look terrible when streamed. These are provided for Downloading - they look like they were recorded with a potato if streamed over pcloud.

My 'BEGINNERS GUIDE to Dashcams' can be seen here:

UPDATE - I must stress that this is not a basic simple camera suitable for beginners - it has a lot of features and you need to have a bit of experience with apps, smartphones and previous dashcams before you buy this camera.  If you are looking for your first car camera...this is not suitable. I have a list of recommended dashcams and something like the Transcend Drivepro 200 is a good place to start. Big clear screen, minimal options and simple features, no WiFi or reliance on smartphone apps which can lead to potential compatibility issues with specific phones.

I was getting a lot of questions about this camera - if you read through the comments below you'll see that the same questions keep popping up - so to help anyone out who is having issues with the smartphone features of this camera - please watch the video below - you'll also see a demonstration of the CPL filter in use. I recommend you watch this one on Youtube itself (click the youtube logo at the bottom of the video) and then you can skip to the appropriate section you need.

Alan it changes (wakes) from time lapse mode to normal video mode on camera physically moving OR noise. (bang on window, load car passing etc) It has no visual intelligence.

I can no longer view trips in the app on a map. In the app I find recent trips under the tab "Me", with start and stop of each trip and driving score. But no GPS data it seems. Any way to fix this? The blue light is on, so it seems the gps is working.

Thank you Gary for answering my query re temp files. I am new to dash cams and did not understand this process.

I am learning more about this camera as time goes on and as I experiment with it. I think soon the novelty will wear off and will use it as intended i.e. forget it's there until something happens that needs video evidence (hopefully not a crash).

Hello, DDpai has just released the DDpai X2 Pro (Front and rear) dash camera. The camera is available only at the DDpai online shop and not available on amazon or eBay.

Checking to see if you would be doing a review of the DDpai X2 Pro as I am thinking to upgrade from the current M6+ I use.

Do let me know.

Thanks in advance.

Anyone have any issue with the time on their footage. I recently had cause to view and download footage and discover the clock was showing an hour slow. I checked other clips and some were correct and others wrong. I even found clips where the time lost and hour mid clip. What can be causing this?

April 29, 2017 | Unregistered Commenteruptodat

I am going to power my m6+ with a power bank but I need to know how much power the camera draws , I can't find it in the specs, I need to know how long it will record with a 26800 mah power bank .

Can someone tell me where to find the previous firmware? Did the update to latest some weeks ago, and is regularly restarting now - I want to revert to the previous firmware.

May 7, 2017 | Unregistered Commentertom

Hi, just fitted the DDPai M6 plus and would like to thank you for you recommendation and videos. have been watching quite a few to find what would work for me and it's a great bit of kit so thanks again

running OnePlus 3 phone on android and can confirm i have to switch off mobile data to connect to the camera and in wifi settings turn off "scanning always available", would rather i didn't have to but it takes 5 seconds with the right shortcuts set up and shouldn't be necessary to connect that often once up and running.

have 2017 skoda superb estate on finance deal and have hardwired the cam to the fusebox after speaking to pullman skoda and confirming this won't cause any issues with finance, they have said as long as it's removed before returning it will be fine. the hardest bit was finding an earth as the fusebox is surrounded by ALOT of plastic bits but the side panel came off quite easily and presented me with earthing options once i fed the cables through.

fuse piggy back from ebay (but if buying again make sure it comes with the fuse you want! as this didn't) -

dash hardwire key from amazon (but again, don't need the connectors on the end as soldered to fuse piggy back and halfords eyelet for earth) -

thanks again!

This video suggests park mode at 1fps can be enabled but I can't find it, and I also can't see how it would work for very long given the tiny battery size and not having an additional permanent and switched live inputs on the power unit. Can anyone advise if they got parking mode working?

May 17, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterJames

Yes I use it occasionally by plugging into a power bank. It engages after about 10 minutes but it seems that noise, vibration or movement often wakes it up before it reverts to time lapse after another 10 mins.

May 17, 2017 | Unregistered Commenteruptodat

Has anyone noticed the M6+ has gone from DDPAI's site? I wanted to manually update the firmware but it is missing from downloads and the products page.

May 17, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterMike

It is still there. the latest one can be found here.

May 17, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterDebs

Actually, if you go to, all M6 models have been removed from the site. And if you go to their download page ( ), there are no entries on that page for any M6 models, either.

It's been a year since I reviewed this camera so I wouldn't be surprised if it's been discontinued.

May 17, 2017 | Registered CommenterTechmoan

Good evening

Does anyone know what the wifi password is, or how I can change it when I've forgotten it?

I changed the name of the device on my phone as I've just changed cars so the camera reset and is asking for the wifi password!

Thanks in advance

May 19, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterYorkshireman

It's been a while - but the default password on most of the wifi cams is 1234567890 have you tried that?

May 19, 2017 | Registered CommenterTechmoan

Hi Techmoan

Yes, i've tried that, no joy - I think I need a reset as I changed the wifi password but can't remember what it is

May 20, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterYorkshireman

My M6+ has been working fine for a fwe months, but now the wifi and gps lights don't come on and I can't connect my phone any more. Tried restarting and resetting the camera. Any suggestions?

May 21, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterJem

Hello Mr uptodat from April 29th. Yes, mine has suffered from one hour time shifts which isn't too distracting until you want to view in sequence and then have to take an even longer time putting the files back in order! On my M6+ I have noticed that it takes 15 mins of quiet static parking before the single frame (1fps) recording comes into effect, and I can't see any way of shortening that time. I still have more experimenting to do as regards this feature but everything else seems to be working according to plan. Would be grateful to hear from anybody with suggestions. Thanks for the reviews Mr Techmoan.

May 25, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterJoHidd

Hi JoHidd, I had the 1 hour time error too. Buying and formatting a different microsd card seems to have fixed it (so far). My main gripe is I can't find any park mode or time lapse videos anywhere. I've only had the camera a couple of weeks and the latest android app I downloaded from the playstore doesn't have the time lapse slider in the settings. it does have a park mode switch which is in the on position....... but no 1fps videos. The park mode and time lapse features were one of the main reasons I opted for this model and even went to the expense of having it hard-wired. D'oh!
I can't see any sign of the M6 plus on DDpai's website either. Has support been withdrawn to the extent that some of the camera's features have been omitted from the latest app I wonder ? I've sent enquiring emails to DDpai support, but no answer as yet.

May 29, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterTerry

After the Android DDpai app was upgraded, the screen layout changed and access to the settings menu vanished.. Does anyone know if there is any way to access this now? I was able to reformat the SD card by using DDpai's Owlzer app, but naturally this does not support most of the M6+ functions.

June 11, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterPoohBah

PoohBah - it's under the "Me" icon, bottom right in the App.

June 12, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterJames

James – you are a star. I searched high and low, and somehow failed to spot it there. Thank you. I was getting worried in case I have to reset the camera at some point and would be unable to get rid of the "Ying tong iddle i po" sounds, the only thing that lets this lovely little camera down.

Now, does anybody know the Chinese for "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"? 8^D

June 14, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterPoohBah

Hi my time lapse in the parking mode has started recording a frame every 20 seconds has this happened to anyone else and no why?
I'm pretty sure I used to record a frame every second?

The only thing that has changed is I have now hard-wired the car to the battery with a hardwire kit from the same company, but surely this shouldn't make a difference the power is exactly the same during parking mode.

It's a bit frustrating as it's not going to capture much if it's taking a frame every 20 seconds!! Please tell me this wasn't an update?

June 25, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterJames101

Very impressed with your review of the Ddpai M6 Plus and am thinking of getting one. I have seen mention that some dash cams can cause issues with DAB radio, do you know if this happens with the Ddpai M6 Plus?

July 7, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterAndrew

Would be great if you could feedback to the firmware makers to allow EU date format and MPH. As see in your video that the date is USA format. Have you tested anything new? I was going to buy this camera as like the review and now you can get that lens cover part.

July 10, 2017 | Unregistered Commenterjames

james...Software settings are now very slightly different to ones shown on video and now do allow you to use vaious date formats and MPH. As Terry suggested I formatted my card and also pressed the reset button on the camera and still the camera read out occasionally jumps one hour. My thoughts are that I may be in an area where some of the satellites only work on GMT as I believe that is where the dash cam receives its time information. When the clocks go back it will be interesting to see if the problem goes away!

July 10, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterJoHidd

I have 2 ddpai m6+ hard wired in my car (ford kuga) and I am getting terrible interference on the sound have you come across this before.
hope you can help

July 13, 2017 | Unregistered Commentermax400

I can't be ar**ed to read 20 pages of comments to see whether these points have been answered but here's my take.

There are spare mounts and brackets available as well as a full kit of accessories for mounting in a second vehicle.on

The latest firmware allows switching between metric and imperial units (KPH / MPH)

There is a volume control for the announcements which I found annoying. Turning it right down, however, will prevent you hearing any warning beeps.

July 25, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterNorman Law

I've turned down the volume, but the "Helloooo, Ding Ding Pay!" (Hello, DDPai) is still there. Any way to turn this off?
