What SD CARD should I buy?

If you want an SD Card for your camera - these are the ones I use and recommend.

I'd strongly recommend not to buy any SD cards off ebay - I've heard about too many issues with counterfeit cards - often sold on by unwitting resellers. My inbox regularly gets messages from people who bought a £150 camera then cheaped out and bought a £3 memory card on ebay - Then when it doesn't worth they blame the camera! It doesn't make any sense. Good memory is cheaper than it's ever been - see the links above.

A lot of HD cameras will not work properly with cards larger than 32GB (cards over 32GB are usually SDXC rather than the SDHC standard used by 32GB cards. SDXC cards use the ex-FAT system rather than FAT32 - in short they are a different standard). - so don't just buy the biggest card you can afford - read the specs in the manual to see what it accepts.

CLASS 10 UHS-1 CARDS (For HD Cameras)

SPECIAL DASHCAM CARDS

The SD card in a dashcam is re-written over, more frequently than in other types of cameras. Some manufacturers void their guarantee if an SD card was used in a dashcam. So, no surprise, there are special High Endurance SD cards made just for dashcams...here's some.

VERY IMPORTANT. These links take you to the product, however Amazon have three different ways of selling. There's Amazon Direct - This means that you are only dealing with Amazon themselves, then there's other sellers that use Amazon's facilities - these show as Fulfilled By Amazon and finally there's Market Place sellers that advertise on Amazon, but operate independently.  I strongly recommend that you only use the first...the Amazon Direct - Sold By Amazon option. Even if it appears that you are paying a couple of £/$ more it is more than likely you are comparing the price of a real item against the price of a fake.

To give you an idea of the extent of the fake goods problem. In a 2016 survey by Apple - 90% of the 'Apple' chargers sold through Amazon - using the other the two methods..which includes the "Fulfilled by Amazon" option -  were found to be counterfeit....90%!

Just a quick comment about comments

First I want to make something perfectly clear....I am not complaining and I am not upset...I am just passing on a bit of important info.

Whenever I've mentioned youtube comments in the past, people think I'm moaning - so please put this idea out of your mind, I am writing because I feel I owe you an explanation as to why the youtube comments will go downhill from here on.

Ever since I started uploading youtube videos, nine years ago, I've tried to moderate the youtube comments, I'd block trolls, remove nonsense, spam, adverts and hate messages, all with the intention of making my channel a pleasant place to visit...but today I'm having to let go. The channel has become too popular, there are just too many comments being posted for me to keep this up...it's a fire-hose.

I'd like to be able to say that moderating it has become a full time job...but it's more than that...it's a full time job for a team of half a dozen people. So as I'm just one man, I'm backing away from the youtube comments. I'll continue to read the top comments every now and then, probably weekly, but it won't be on a daily basis any more.

I love making videos that entertain people - I enjoy getting feedback and suggestions, I've built the channel through listening to and responding to the viewers who enjoy the videos and I'll miss (some of) the banter, but if I'm going to be able to find the time to continue making videos, I've no choice but to take a step back and let the comments go full Lord Of The Flies...it's become far too time consuming to keep on top of. I won't be blocking or deleting anything any more - it seems right to leave it totally unsupervised.

I will still read and (try to) respond to comments posted on Patreon, Twitter and this website, but as far as youtube...it was fun, but the party was probably really over a couple of years ago.

I love making things, but I don't enjoy talking about them afterwards. The fun for me is in the creating rather than the explaining.

Hopefully dropping youtube comment moderation commitments out of my list of jobs will allow me more time to spend on making fun and informative videos...but inevitably the youtube comments will suffer, so if you see anything particularly offensive to others, please do everyone a favour and flag it as inappropriate.

I gave up reading YouTube comments years ago. In fact now I just watch your videos on the TV. No comments even visible :)

Me too Kevin - I watch the vids on my Roku or PlayStation and if I want to comment I simply come here. :)

Brilliant, thanks chaps. Just the other day I tried watching one of my recent vids on my TV. The only way for me to watch a YouTube video in 4K is to watch it on my 4K TV in the lounge, and the TV's built in app works fine. I'd imagine that as more people get 4K, this could become a more common way to watch the videos, and as you point out, the comments are no where to be seen, besides no one would want to type one out using a TV remote anyway.
I've got access to some stats on how and where the videos are viewed, perhaps it would be an interesting topic for a article one day.

You still haven't done anything on the best domestic video tape format, Phillips V2000. Mine is gathering dust in my attic. What's the delay?

Keep up the good work.
