What SD CARD should I buy?

If you want an SD Card for your camera - these are the ones I use and recommend.

I'd strongly recommend not to buy any SD cards off ebay - I've heard about too many issues with counterfeit cards - often sold on by unwitting resellers. My inbox regularly gets messages from people who bought a £150 camera then cheaped out and bought a £3 memory card on ebay - Then when it doesn't worth they blame the camera! It doesn't make any sense. Good memory is cheaper than it's ever been - see the links above.

A lot of HD cameras will not work properly with cards larger than 32GB (cards over 32GB are usually SDXC rather than the SDHC standard used by 32GB cards. SDXC cards use the ex-FAT system rather than FAT32 - in short they are a different standard). - so don't just buy the biggest card you can afford - read the specs in the manual to see what it accepts.

RECOMMENDED CARDS (for action cams - see dashcams below)

CLASS 10 UHS-1 CARDS (For HD Cameras)

U3 CARD (For 4K cameras)

The SD card in a dashcam is re-written over, more frequently than in other types of cameras. Some manufacturers void their guarantee if an SD card was used in a dashcam. So, no surprise, there are special High Endurance SD cards made just for's some.

VERY IMPORTANT. These links take you to the product, however Amazon have three different ways of selling. There's Amazon Direct - This means that you are only dealing with Amazon themselves, then there's other sellers that use Amazon's facilities - these show as Fulfilled By Amazon and finally there's Market Place sellers that advertise on Amazon, but operate independently.  I strongly recommend that you only use the first...the Amazon Direct - Sold By Amazon option. Even if it appears that you are paying a couple of £/$ more it is more than likely you are comparing the price of a real item against the price of a fake.

To give you an idea of the extent of the fake goods problem. In a 2016 survey by Apple - 90% of the 'Apple' chargers sold through Amazon - using the other the two methods..which includes the "Fulfilled by Amazon" option -  were found to be counterfeit....90%!

I just bought this from a chinese vendor on ebay and FYI it doesn't come with the SD card or the suction mount. It has the sticky mount, but I was planning to use this across a few cars.

Bit annoying, but my fault at the end of the day, I assumed the inclusions would be the same as the one you showed.

Appreciate your reviews, and I hope this one works out well!

If you had to choose between the two would you have the a119 or this? I'm hugely torn between the two.

I use the A119 because it’s better at hiding. However the construction does feel quite a bit cheaper than the Yi products.

I have the Yi 2.7k like Matt, great camera but not easy to hide (it picks up the mirror casing in my 7 series in normal viewing sat behind the mirror, so need to sit a good 3” to the left of the mirror meaning it’s in full view) - so I’m putting the Yi in the works lorry, and getting either an A119s or Roav C1 Pro, still have my trusty Mobius discreetly on the rear of the car - they are still a great Cam!

Recently i read your post it’s really a nice post. Recently I write some reviews about Car Dash Cam. I hope That’s will help every vehicle owner or driver to find a best dash cam.

I ended up ordering a Yi, came to fit it and the screen was faulty so its had to go back. all down the right hand side had what looked like back-light bleed and a few blobs on the left hand side too. quite disappointing really.

Just curious - I have the DDPai M6 Plus (thank you for your review, by the way, it's the reason I bought it).
Do you see any reason to upgrade to the Yi cameras from the M6 Plus? IE if it weren't discontinued, would it still be your pick for best dash cam?
As an aside, every time I see someone ask about dash cams, I point them to your webpage. I've gotten many thanks from them, so please keep up the good work on your reviews.

Oh and another question. I drive a pick up truck, so my rear window is completely vertical. Are there any dash cams out there that have a decent mounting option for a straight up and down window? None that I have looked at would work as the suction cup would not allow the camera to be point straight out the rear window. And I don't want to mount it on the windshield pointing back as I don't need video of the interior of the truck.

I prefer the DDPai camera’s compact size - the only reason I stopped looking at the DDpai camera range is because they didn’t get around to localising them - so there were still a few things in Chinese which some of the viewers were unable to cope with...and on top of that I’d never seen so many people confused by an app. It seemed like the less some people understood - the more they wanted to attempt to use features that went beyond their understanding...and then complained when they couldn’t figure it out. I got sick of being customer support to people who couldn’t work the phone app.

We've decided to buy a simple dashcam and were impressed with the Yi ultra BUT we live in Bulgaria were the collision detection system would activate every few minutes. Can you recommend an alternative unit for us that would be more suitable for our roads? We are technophobes and would need a pretty simple unit. Thanks.
