What SD CARD should I buy?

If you want an SD Card for your camera - these are the ones I use and recommend.

I'd strongly recommend not to buy any SD cards off ebay - I've heard about too many issues with counterfeit cards - often sold on by unwitting resellers. My inbox regularly gets messages from people who bought a £150 camera then cheaped out and bought a £3 memory card on ebay - Then when it doesn't worth they blame the camera! It doesn't make any sense. Good memory is cheaper than it's ever been - see the links above.

A lot of HD cameras will not work properly with cards larger than 32GB (cards over 32GB are usually SDXC rather than the SDHC standard used by 32GB cards. SDXC cards use the ex-FAT system rather than FAT32 - in short they are a different standard). - so don't just buy the biggest card you can afford - read the specs in the manual to see what it accepts.

SPECIAL DASHCAM CARDS

The SD card in a dashcam is re-written over, more frequently than in other types of cameras. Some manufacturers void their guarantee if an SD card was used in a dashcam. So, no surprise, there are special High Endurance SD cards made just for dashcams...here's some.

VERY IMPORTANT. These links take you to the product, however Amazon have three different ways of selling. There's Amazon Direct - This means that you are only dealing with Amazon themselves, then there's other sellers that use Amazon's facilities - these show as Fulfilled By Amazon and finally there's Market Place sellers that advertise on Amazon, but operate independently.  I strongly recommend that you only use the first...the Amazon Direct - Sold By Amazon option. Even if it appears that you are paying a couple of £/$ more it is more than likely you are comparing the price of a real item against the price of a fake.

To give you an idea of the extent of the fake goods problem. In a 2016 survey by Apple - 90% of the 'Apple' chargers sold through Amazon - using the other the two methods..which includes the "Fulfilled by Amazon" option -  were found to be counterfeit....90%!

The National Panapic...I'm sorry the what-now?

If you don't want any spoilers, just press play on the video below then come back and read the rest of the text afterwards. It'll probably be more fun that way.
So what we have here is multi-media, 1977 style. It wouldn't be until the introduction of CD-ROM in the late 80s and early 90s that photos, music and text would be combined in such a way again. . I really enjoy showcasing these kind of anomalies, where you see the germination of ideas or products that existed many years before their successful re-introduction. I hope you enjoyed watching this video about the Panapic as much as I did making it.

Time for a quick nixie tube video

Here's a short video featuring two nixie tube based devices I've purchased recently. The first is a new hand built four digit nixie watch and the second is a vintage nixie stop-clock.

As always I bought these on ebay - so here's a couple of searches that you can try to see if there is anything available. 1) Nixie Watches  2) Pragotron Stop-clock
Update - there is one more watch like mine for sale: http://ebay.to/2xLwyDL

You'll also find some Nixie devices for sale on Etsy.

Finally it seems that this chap https://pikabu.ru/profile/ArtemPopov (Russian Website) is the person who made my watch.

Oh and a couple of omissions or corrections: The battery life on the watch depends on how often you activate the display - but at the best it's two months between charges.  Also at one point in the video I refer to the earth pin on a plug being 'missing' - I should have worded this better as this is how the plug was designed - however I'll still need to replace it with a UK plug in order to earth it to a UK mains socket.

CX Discs - Better, Worse & The Same as a normal record

CBS envisioned all records made after 1982 utilising their CX encoding system, but if you've bought any music on vinyl since the mid 80s, you won't see a CX logo on the sleeve...so what was CX and what went wrong. Watch this video to find out.

As always there are some great contributions in the comments - especially this link to a DIY CX decoder kit.

Review: Feiyu Tech Wearable Gimbal

Here's a look at the Wearable Gimbal from Feiyu Tech. Most 4K action cameras do not have image stabilisation for the 4k/UHD modes, a notable exception being the expensive Sony FDR-X3000R which uses optical image stabilisation. So that's where this device comes in, it stabilises the motion of any action camera that fits within its mount, but it's not perfect. Watch the video to learn more.

Feiyu Tech have already brought out a newer version, the WG2. I haven't tested this, but hopefully it rectifies the tilting issue of its predecessor.
The following  links will direct you to the Wearable Gimbal range on

Hipac - Pioneer's forgotten 1970s cassette rival

There's nothing I enjoy more than discovering and passing on details about a forgotten format. The fun of seeing the immediate reaction and then watching the video being shared across the internet is hard to describe.

The format featured in this video is called Hipac and if you search for more information about it on the internet you'll find next to nothing. Then again it's very unlikely you would be searching for it as it's missing off all the historical audio format lists I can find. Even obscure formats like the Sanyo MicroPack 35 usually get a mention and that one was just a dictation system.

I've gathered everything I've learnt about HiPac and present it here in the only English language youtube demonstration of this forgotten 1970s cartridge system.
